I was using my S2 as a daily driver when it was stolen. In the end i got geico to pony up 14k plus tax - if you do a search of posts i started in september 03 you will see the details and drama.

when i bought my gray S2 in May 04 i switched my 68 firebird convertible from JC taylor that had it for almost 20 years, and put the S2 on a policy with an affiliate of geico. I had an agreed value policy and chose 14,000 since that is what geico gave me for the other car.

jc taylor said the S2 was too new and wouldnt talk to me about the S2. the other company (now american modern) insured the firebird as an antique and the S2 as an exotic.

17k is the right starting point.

I probably underpaid for my gray S2 when I got it with 54k, but it does have a few flaws, one of the amps doesnt work and there is a scratch on the rear quarter that you have to look to see. total bodywork on the car is about $500 but all is too small to bother fixing for a weekend toy, or as a daily driver which it is becoming as we speak.

To be honest with you Tom, and anyone else who is reading this, I am asking for what I would expect to pay for a car of this caliber. I am assuming that this is the exact color, style, year, model, etc. that I would want. As they say, "there is an *** for every seat." Not meaning anything negative, just meaning there is a buyer for this car somewhere out there, it may just take a while to find the perfect buyer.

If I don't find that buyer, then I have to consider what I would accept for the car. We all know that "money talks and B.S. walks," so if a real offer comes in, I will have to seriously consider it. I paid top $ for the car, but I was that perfect buyer. I know there are others like me out there and may or may not choose to wait for that buyer. However, I am reasonable and will work with a real buyer.

My apologies - you know, just trying to keep the wolves at bay. Us owners of pristine 944 S2s with low mileage that everyone thinks are worth 10k but would be worth 20k is they owned em should stick together!

GOD I'm sick and tired of the people on this board busting their asses to de-value our cars! Good luck with the sale.
BTW it is NOT almost as fast as my 951...but that's another thread.

Vinnie, GoBogie & Ehall...you all are correct. I find that the people who do this are sometimes just passionate and have lots of knowledge, but most of them will eventually end up in the corner of a room, wrapped up in the fetal position flicking the light switch on and off while sucking their thumb.

I am always intrigued by the "glass is half empty" attitude sprinkled with a twist of "I need to step on you to make myself feel more important." We all know this person and really just tolerate them for as long as we can. However, internet anonymity seems to sometimes give them ***** the size of church bells.

As for my occasional slice of humble pie...I take mine a la mode.

Oh, Ehall, you're right about that...that comment is for another thread. I will say these two things and leave that one alone. 1) I will conceed that I have never been in your 951 if you will conceed that you have never been in my S2...so we can't REALLY talk inteligently about each others cars, only the two cars in general (BTW, I would agree that the 951 is faster in different speed bands) and 2) As in any test involving non-mechanical things like humans, the driver can make a world of differenece. Again, not trying to debate this as I do agree with you...for the most part.

HEY!!! I resemble that remark.

Or do I?

If memory serves me correctly I got a check for 15K for an 89 S2 with 74 or was it 76K miles just three years ago, and the values have been stable since then.

On the other hand I did just get a measly 9500 for my other 89S2 with a mere 58k miles on it - WITHOT THE WHEELS!! or tires for that matter.

I know exactly what SS's car is worth.....But Im Not Telling

I have been watching the S2 market in the last few months. Beginning of summer those that were anywhere near me, owners were asking top dollar. Some of the cars I understood, others I just had to be nice and not say anything. I picked up my S2 in July for a great price with only a few little things that needed replacing. As I have been watching any S2 ad's, the price has been going up. There is currently one for sale near us SS, that asking price is $15.9k for a 89S2 that's not nearly in as good of shape as yours sounds. Don't forget the 90' S2 was the year with the least amount imported to the US.

Hang in there SS, the *** for that seat will come along.

no problem with asking a higher dollar amount and waiting

i ended up getting 4500 for my 85.5 944 NA with 206,000 miles on it (yes i did a lot of work to it, but still, thats pretty high for an NA imo)

I saw this red cabrio go on ebay (item #270022278493) not too long ago for $17,100 with bids going right up to the ending time...so the price might have gone up if they had not had a time limit.
