Default Another harness question.... :)

Hi,
Im a complete noob when it comes to harnesses so for give me if/when I sound stupid (lol too late )
What does G-force, or any company mean when they say pull up or pull down?
which is better?
which is better / preferable between camlock and latch?
and FINALLY
If I plan to use a harness with stock seats (yes I read that old thread already), do I need "H-type" harnesses?

Thanks
Sebastian

You put the harnesses on loose, then tighten them as snug as possible. To tighten the harness, you need to pull the ends either up or down. Personally, I prefer down. For me, they are easier to tighten. I also prefer camlock, one twist and you are free of the belts.

Please do yourself a favor...have your local PCA DE safety chair (or someone very familiar with safety gear) review your proposed safety system. Incorrectly installed harnesses can be less effective than stock three-point belts.

Are you planning on using this setup for the street? My track toy has a set of 6points for the drivers seat and while it doesnt get driven a whole lot in town it is a major pain in the *** if you ever want to merge traffic or back out of a parking spot - so if its your daily driver I'd reccomend keeping what you've got. Otherwise I don't know about the H-style harnesses, but if you're looking for mounting information do a search for harness installation on this forum, look on manufacturer's sites for their suggestions, and BEFORE YOU DO IT check with someone in person (like previously mentioned - PCA tech) to see if its legit or not. Good luck!

It depends on what your using this for. I am pretty sure most PCA regions will not allow any type of harness with a stock seat at a DE event.

You can however use it at autocross. You are correct that a H-strap (or halo strap) should be used, it can be put infront of the headrest portion of the seat, but behind your head. This should help keep the harnesses on your shoulders. This is what i plan on doing with my Redline harnesslbar / stock seat combo. Again, ONLY for autocross. I would not trust this setup at DE (it wont even pass tech)...and i wouldnt even consider using a harness for street driving unless you have some type of a rollbar. Even then, 90% of harnesses available are not DOT legal.

Some DE's won't allow harnesses without some sort of hoop.

One thing not brought up (cage or not) is if you're going to bother with harnesses, get the 3" wide set. 2" just cut into your shoulders.

there is no way in god's green earth that I would put a harness as my only restraint in a street/track car. I would (of course) keep the stocks. lol why would you only have 6pts for the street, thats just a PITA.

I dont use them on the street either! Thats why I keep my stock belt in. I was just trying to avoid you a glancing collision on the highway.

I bought the GForce 5 point about a month a go and have been VERY happy with it. 3" wide. For $150 it was a steal. I bought it from Summit Racing.

Is it true that for PCA events, you must have the same restraint / harness system for driver and instructor??
and if so, does it apply to seats as well?

Yes x2. Think about it - if you have less safety gear for your instructor, what's the message you're saying to him? It's that you feel it isn't as important to keep him safe. As an instructor, I wouldn't want to be sitting next to someone who doesn't feel that my safety is a priority...
