Default OT: Got a miata today

My dad got himself one, actually.. but thanks to my suggestion. Also, I'm the one who's going to be doing all the work, but in exchange I get to drive it fairly often ^^

1999 10th Anniversary Edition.. Weighs 2300 lbs, has 140 hp (crank), bilstein shocks (stiffer handling than regular miata). The thing is gorgeous and sooooooo much fun to drive! Man, its not as fast as a 951 or even a n/a 944 in a straight line, but that thing is so tossable and the braking is so responsive, etc etc. Anyone who's driven one before knows exactly what I'm talking about.. its that sensation you get when you first drive a car that weighs just over a ton.

Anyways, we already have plans for putting a supercharger on it (goal of 200 rwhp) > Should be a sweet little toy.

By the way, people on miata.net's forums aren't nearly responsive enough, I think I've been spoiled by rennlist

Congratulations. I love the color of 10th AE Edition. I loved my 95...for fun you might want to look at the Flying Miata turbo setups also. They are pricey but oh so powerful. The Sebring SC set-up is smog legal here in Calif. which is a nice feature. The only knock I've heard the the SC setup is the parasitic load on the engine at idle with the AC on is pretty noticeable. miata.net will be your dad's second home; great forum.

My freind has a 10AE. They are great cars. VERY fun! He wants to know how many miles and such.
This is his car:

This is him:

His 10AE has intake, header and exhaust, also has koni yellows. Enjoy that thing. Remember to hold your pinky finger out while you drive it.

Oh snap!

Sweet car - I once test drove a 99 with a mild performance suspension setup. It literally felt like I was teleporting through sharp corners. Surreal, and very addictive. But the used-car weasels were asking about $5K more than market value because of the fancy (and hideous) custom gold paint, so I passed.

i got a 99 black&tan leather in february with 40k miles a new top, strut tower brace, frame stiffners and a K&N from the original owner.

Black cars in general are about my least favorite color, but, I bought the car without even seeing a picture, took amtrak four hours to pick it up and drove it home. if it was green i would be elated. my wife likes black so i guess i will keep it a couple of years.

this is the first time i ever bought a used car where all i had/have to do is put gas in it. the car came with almost every receipt, the window sticker, and the oil is mobil 1 that was changed when the top was put on 300 miles before i bought it.

All I did was change the speakers to the clearwater setup. i suggest you look into it. it is a lot easier than changing the whole head unit which is the horrible bose with .5ohm output.

Driving the miata with the top down is about the most fun one can have in public with his pants on!!!

The car has 70k on it, and is completely stock except for the double hoop roll bar. I'll have to wash it and take some photos this weekend..

"Driving the miata with the top down is about the most fun one can have in public with his pants on!!!"

Haha, very true! This is the first non-electric convertible I've ever driven, and I must say, I really love how easy and quick it is to put the top up and down. And also, the "teleporting through corners" experience is indeed addicting.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check out flying miata...

That is one beautiful color. Were all 10th AE the same color?

Yep, and has the 10AE front lip, side skirts and such. It is a very nice looking car. He actually gets compliments on it.

RWD. 50:50 weight distribution. 4-wheel double-wishbone suspension. Cat-like reflexes.

Sweet car! As an owner of both Miatas and 944s, I can appreciate their differences as well. Both cars have their strenths and weaknesses. But I do agree that top-down cruising in the Miata is hard to beat.

BB.
