OT: Got a miata today
#17
I have had several Miatas. It carries a certain image along with it, especially when 2 men ride in one together.
The Miata lists and forums seem to be more interested in luggage racks and cup holders than performance and such. I was pretty dissapointed myself.
As for it being as much fun as you can have in public with pants on................who says you have to have pants on???
The Miata is a fun little car. I enjoyed them all. I personally like the 1st gen cars better, but still nice cars and fun to drive.

As for me, I think the blue AE is pretty cool. It needs more power though. I can't understand why the Solstice/SKY are so much heavier. Of course they have a supercharged or turbo engine coming.

The solstice and sky are heavy because they share a platform with other cars in the GM Global line. The Miata doesn't have to contend with being made into a coupe, or econobox as well as a fun little convertible. The Nissan 350Z/G35 are the same story, they're 500lbs. overweight because they double as an SUV platform. Great for economies of scale, no so great for us enthusiats.
The Miata was the first car I ever drove in a track situation and I've got tremendous respect for them since that experience. I couldn't believe how tossable and forgiving that chasis is, not to mention how much punishment an essentially stock machine with 130,000 miles was willing to take (the only mods my friend had done was a set of #200 lbs lowering springs and hawk brake pads). Great machine!
