(Looking at my 968) "Is that a 928?"
"No, it's a 968."
"Oh, 968, huh? That's the one with the V8, right?"
![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)
(Regarding my 968) "What's the 0-60 time?"
"About 6 seconds."
"Nice. So it's a V6?"
"No, it's a 968."

one time i was sitting in class next to this real douche bag, the type who thinks they know about cars. anyway we were talking about cars and i told him that i drive a 944 and got the "poor-man's Porsche" comment...
when i asked him what he drove he responded, "a BMW 5 series"
really? how can you afford that at being only 18?
"its my dad's...."
smh

I do get 'hey, nice nissan' and usually just ignore it. However my Brother-in-law insists on calling it a Saab, VW, Audi, etc. whenever he can...I am polite because he owns the shop, lift and all the equipment I use to repair it...sometimes we just grin and bear it.

Every car has haters and stupid comments, As long as you are happy and enjoy your car thats all that counts. I was at a car show, and people were bashing a group of Lambo Murci, Ferrari 458, Ferrari F430, etc. Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one.

I had a fellow co worker at my last job argue with me for half an hour about taking my car to a road course. Saying I needed to upgrade my 86 951 first. I asked what he would upgrade on it. "Well the brakes for one." I played dumb "Oh you mean like Brembos or something?" "Ya if you could afford them." "Ya, umm Brembos come stock from the factory"
I take my 924s to drift events regularly, it has 944 front fenders, and 944 fiber glass flares, so it's basically a 44 to the whole drift crowd. I always get:
Man you are crazy for drifting that expensive of a car
Oh, must be easy with that much power. I ALWAYS respond with "ya, it's all stock too, your turbo SR20 is makin about 250hp right? My Porsche might be putting 150 to the ground."

I had my car at a local get together. A guy walked up and looked at the engine bay and asked if it was a turbo. I said no, he remarked " Oh, it's just an NA" to his buddy and waked off. The other guys who were looking at it started laughing because it was obvious he had no idea what he was looking at.

Saab? Saab!? That doesn't even make sense. The other two do, obviously, but Saab?
You can tell him that by definition (as in, developed entirely in-house under the name Porsche AG), the only 'real' Porsches (for the road) are the 928, CGT and, sadly, the Panuglimera. Everything else was, while initially designed by Porsche, borrowed parts from VW and Audi cars or based their design heavily on such cars.
The 924 was developed/designed by Porsche AG for Audi. Luckily when Audi/VW backed out, Porsche decided to go forward with the project on their own. This would not have happened unless it met Porsche's high standards. Porsche does a lot of design and development work that isn't necessarily sold under their own name. Audi RS2 is one that comes to mind.
According to some sources, this may actually be true. The 924 and 928 were named such as they were among the 2nd generation of cars Porsche designed, respectively having 4 and 8 cylinder engines. This theory does hold true for some other Porsches, i.e. the 914, 916, 904, 906, etc. The theory on the middle digit holds true until the early nineties but then sort of fizzles out with numbers after 969. There is also a reason, slightly different, for other Porsche cars. Most pre-1980 Porsches have a reason for their second and third digits. The reason for the '900' series was since Porsche was a fairly new company, they wanted to sound as though they had already done 900 previous design projects. However, a surprisingly large amount of the numbers 1-899 are filled with lesser-known projects the company did. The only reason Porsche is still in the 900's is because the company is now run by a bunch of bean-counters.![ducking](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon107.gif)
Take care!

Not exactly 944 related but bugs me anyway, my buddy has a 90s boxster that he drives to school. Somebody silly string'd his car and it damaged the paint (baking in the az sun), kids were talking about it like it was a huge freaking deal because "OMG his car's worth like eighty thousand dollars!!!"
more like 10% of that.
