Damn that sucks. So sorry to hear that. Apparently accidents caused by such reasons aren't all that uncommon. Hope there is good remedy to your situation.

Chock up another one for my '88 944S. I wrecked it in July, but haven't been on the list for a while (school has been taking up a lot of time). The pictures of what it used to be are here:

http://www.p-caronline.com/directory/rd944s/

In this case it wasn't a Bee which brought death to the 944, it was myself and not sleeping enough. I fell asleep on the way home from campus and hit a curb and wall of a building at ~30mph. Don't drive during exams (summer classes at UT)or while tired. I don't remember a thing from the accident as I woke from the airbag hitting my face. No major injuries to me, and another 944 serves as a lifesaver.

As of now, I'm still finishing up classes (25hrs remain). I'm purchasing a 1991 Blazer (fullsize) to drive as it is a solid-running 1500 dollar solution (the 944 was total loss, had liability only because I'm a poor college student). I'll frequent the list as much as time allows now, and I do plan to drive a P-Car again...when I can better afford one, next year!

Your 20 years old but you bought your car in 1997? How does that work? I don't know many 12 year olds with Porsches.

Sorry to hear about your car Robert. You're supposed to sleep in class, not on the way.

I heard more about the wreck today. It seems that it was parked behind a van, so when the car was struck in the rear, the front got shoved under the van. Apparently, it was struck in the rear, but off to the driver's side and the front passenger's wheel was somehow pushed up onto the curb and cracked in the process. Those were the wheels on which I spent days sanding and hand polishing.

All body panels on the front clip are damaged, as well as the driver's side rear. My dad thinks the doors are fine, but is not positive. Other than that, only the sunroof and passenger side rear quarter survived. I'm an hour away from it and my dad can't figure out how to upload pics for me to see the actual damage. Even worse, the car is now sitting outside with a broken hatch...and there is a good chance of rain tomorrow.

In preparing to deal with the insurance company, I have a favor to ask. I no longer subscribe to Excellence, but I was wondering if anyone knows when the last 924/944 market update was. Having the latest values would be helpful. If anyone has it and is willing to help I would greatly appreciate it.

excellence means ****! the insurance companies dont use "book" values. they hire an appraisal company to determine the value.

the appraisal company chooses comparable cars and prepares a report. the appraiser does NOT usually research their comparable cars.

you may ask for a copy of the report. then you can rip it apart. you should then prepare your own appraisal. Oh, did i tell you the insurance company has to use asking prices? yep, they do. you should do your own research, look in panorama/pca classifieds and contact the sellers, get as much information to use. contact the sellers of the cars used in the insurance appraisal. like i said before, you can nitpick their comparables.

think about it, you go in front of a judge and show how your car was better than their comparables. they then say their comps are bad comps and they should have.... you then show the comps you have. how do they challenge them? you already laid out the differences, while the insurance company forgot to mention things. you get the idea.

good luck.
