Sorry to hear! When you lose a car that's been with you for so long it's kind of like losing an old friend. Maybe another NA will come into your life before you know it and stir up all those old memories.
I had to leave my 83 behind when I moved back to Europe and it's collecting dust back in the Caribbean. It's really high miles and nowhere near as perfect as yours appeared to be, but a friend in Miami has decided to "rescue" it.

Kind of fitting to see these black and white photos on Halloween. Looks like Hitchcock could have shot them..Real horror show man. Looking at them made me fee ill. The good news is your Pop was not (and you) in the car at the time. Hope all goes well and I know you will find one soon.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. The van was probably going around 45, which is pretty amazing because there is only about 100 meters for the van to pick up speed to smash my car after coming around the corner. The driver was wreckless in every sense. The story was that she was running late taking her daughter to dance class. That, plus the aforementioned bee put her, her daughter and everyone/everything else on the road in danger. Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured....except Hans. As far as parts, I opted to not purchase the car back, so it was towed to a salvage lot in Indy.
As for another 944, I am probably putting it on hold for a year or so. I have my hands full with getting my 951 where it deserves to be, and my doctoral defense is just around the corner. Never fear though... I've been scouting 968 cabs for a 951 engine transplant when things calm down.
It was sorta sad going to the scene this weekend. There was still glass all over the road. As I was walking through the grass onto which the car was shoved, I found a mangled piece of aluminum. Judging from the photos it was probably from the passenger front wheel. That was painful, considering those were the wheels that I spent a winter hand polishing and re-finishing.

im in the search for a 944 clutch...what would be the chances you could call that junk yard and ask them to take the clutch out so you could make some money...or hell give me the phone number so i can call to see if they can get me the clutch

I'm not sure what salvage yard has it. I can ask my dad if he knows. The clutch would be a good part to pull, as it was just replaced no more than 5-8K miles ago.

That really is a shame, i am sorry to hear about your car being destroyed like that.
I am curious, is the minivan infront of your car front wheel drive? Was that cars transmission damaged from being pushed foward like that (i would assume it was in park)?
I have always been told that the only thing holding a car in park is a 'pin'.

Thanks Ben. Are you back in Indy now? We need to have another GTG before it snows.
I'm assuming that the minivan is front wheel drive. Aren't most? The owner drove it away, so if there was any damage to the tranny, it was minimal, or not noticed.

The minivan in front looks like a Plymouth Voyager, early to mid-90's.
Front wheel drive, some of the Chrysler models were available in optional AWD, not sure if the Plymouth was, though.

Sorry to hear that man.
Are you optimistic at all that it can be saved or not? Perhaps it's not as bad as it seems. Good metal working people can really do wonders you know.

A GTG sounds good Mike. Yeah I am back after the 60 day tour of MS and New Orleans. It would be nice to do something before the snow flies. I will be taking my car up to my brother's place for winter storage in the next month or two.
