Default Torque spec request

Since my server with all my Porsche junk on it is currently "inop". . .

What's the torque spec. for the rear axle bolts that connect the axles to the transmission? The annoying "triple square", 12-point ones that always back out (like happened to me the other day, hence why I'm asking). TIA.

just put them on until they are tight..., then a quick snap of the wrist to tighten them a little more... then they won't back out again... do this if you got grease on the threads...

No one else is asking, so I will. Why would ya do it this way.......really. You don't have a torque wrench? How can you have any real consistancy to the tightening of all those bolts? Grease on the threads........why? Loctite maybe.......grease? Doesn't that throw off any real "torque" value thats trying to be acheived, and thus you really wouldn't have a clue where your really at?

I think I'll stick with using a torque wrench on something this problematic, myself.

I have a torque wrench. I torqued it to the propper 31 foot pounds when I installed the axles. about 2 months later they backed out. I put said information on a thread, a couple people told me the above information. it worked for me when I put them back in. I was informed that if grease gets on the threads, they'll back out easier...

here is the thread that gave me the information that I'm talking about...

Torque spec. normally I'd go 3/8 apesh*t. for bolts like the struts, balljoints etc I'd go full apesh*t. axle nuts are apesh*t and a half to apesh*t and 3/4. Good luck

I was damn nearly thinking locktite red on those beyatches after they backed out on me. . . but I'm working on a more elegant solution involving a set of 24 M8x40mm bolts (hex head, not that triple-square crap), washers and nuts. Oh, and safety wire. Figure it out?

Wow, sounds like there are a few people having problems with these bolts. I haven't had the opportunity to find this out myself. I've removed/re-installed one set of axles (re-packed), but never had the problem. I don't race the car either, so maybe thats a big factor there. I used the original bolts, after cleaning threads inside and out, and used medium loctite (green) on them. I think the lockwire idea would be a good way to go on top of that, if one is racing/stressing the car. I'm just not in the mindset of torqueing by "feel" or ape***t levels. To each their own though, whatever works for ya.
