Default Semi-OT: Met an unhappy Cayenne owner at the pumps today

Pulled up to get gas today and I was walking in to pay when I noticed a green Cayenne with a VW badge on it. I thought that it was the tourag(?) for a second but then realized it was a rebadged cayenne. The owner was under the hood adding oil to the engine (is this normal on these engines?). I asked him about the badge. He told me that he put it on because he didn't want to look like a poser driving something that wasnt really a porsche. We talked for a while longer about Porsches, apparently he has a 3.2 911 for the summer and his wife wanted an SUV (which he hates) so he decided to compromise and buy a Cayenne. It was quite the encounter.

I might understand de-badging a car (although I've never seen that done to a Porsche) but to add VW stuff, that's pretty strange.

There's a similar thread on the 993 forum. Aparently someone in a Cayenne S pulled up next to someone in a yellow C4S and asked them when they were gonna trade the volkswagen for a real Porsche... WTF

Yeah he was an interesting guy to talk to. I think he hated the fact that it was an SUV more than anything and not that it was a watercooled front engine machine. As for the oil adding, all he said was that it kept using oil and he didnt know why.

That guy is an idiot. I'm surprised he even talked to you; he probably considers all 944 drivers to be posers as well.

Let me get this straight...He didn't want to be a poser, so he proceeded to remove the correct badging on his new car, and apply a false branding to it instead? um...

Anyone who doesn't consider the Cayenne a "real Porsche" is okay in my book. Personally I think Porsche should've created a subsidiary company and marketed it under that marquee and thus still gained access to the profit margins of the Cayenne to fund their racing programs. SUVs aren't real Porsches. Or real Volkswagens for that matter.
