Ok. Update. Denver Police stopped by and filled out a report. They are getting a traffic detective on it. Also, one of the campus security guards is a retired denver police officer. He called up some of his buddies, and low and behold we know that it was a 2000 Nissan SUV, Green in color, we have the lady's name, address, phone number, etc. She lives in South Denver, is not a student or staff member at our school, was visiting for some reason. My friend who witnessed it now needs to make a statement as soon as he's done in class, to put her at the scene, and the case is pretty much closed. Once it's closed up with campus security, I get the packet of their findings, and I can call her to either work through this, or just go straight to her insurance.

As the security gaurd said, "This is pretty much cut and dry. We've got her, and she'll pay for the damages out of her own money, or her insurance, and she'll get a hit and run charge."

How does a Green SUV leave white paint on your car?

I'm geussing it's the primer she left behind too... Upon closer daylight inspection, there is some dark paint on there too...

The white might be your primer too. In a couple of places where the power waxer has worn away the 19yo paint on my hood, the primer shows through as white.

I'm glad you went through the proper channels and things are falling into place. Good luck with the repairs.

good point Eric. Thanks!

My hood is guards pink because a lot of my paint has come off from all of the polishing I do...I'm hoping to repaint this summer.

On a side note, my car is parked easily within view of my room, and I just saw someone walk by and look at my car until he couldn't turn his neck anymore. It's great to know that an 18 year old car can still turn heads...

If yuo have the money, you may want to see how much they'd charge to do a quick spray of teh hood while they have the color mixed.

Yeah...I was actually thinking about that. If I did that, i'd have them spray the air dam, nose panel, headlight doors, and front fenders too...so It'd be on the pricey side to make it look good...

That's great that our cars still get appreciative stares. It's funny because I really didn't appreciate the 924 until I got my 944. Now I think the 924, especially the S, is a pretty great car. Sounds like it'll be better than ever when you get it repaired.

Exactly. And if she does pay cash, I'm gonna get the tail light from the junkyard... Still gonna have Stuttgart Auto Body (Most expensive, best body shop in Denver) do the repairs to the damaged sheet metal

Even if she does not pay cash, even if her insurance company cuts the check you can do whatever you want with the money. Don't commit to a body shop, hand in 3-4 estimates (or only the two most expensive if it varies a lot) and tell them your not 100% which one your going to use - before anyone can say it - THIS IS NOT INSURANCE FRAUD. She hit you, you are owed the money for fixing the car. Your not required by law to fix it UNLESS it's your insurance company paying out - then they will insist on you fixing it.

I've been hit 4 times in 2 different cars. Each time the check was made out to me. I handed in the dealers body repair estimate for $1,500 on my beetle. My friend (who is a better body man anyway) did the job for $300. I kept $1,200 - this was not illegal.

Awesome! thanks Hacker. I'll definately get as many estimates as I can, and pick the top two for turning in.

Yeah, I've been hit numerous times. Rear-ended in my Supra twice and each time, I just got 3-4 estimates and gave them copies. Said I'll take the average of those estimates. They cut me a check and that's it. On another incident, I had to replace the passenger door. So I took the check and bought a used door form a junk-yard and replaced it myself. Even wrote up an invoice to myself from "Danno's Autohaus" for the files...
