That top car in the first pic is Anders' car. He just recently got it (and loves it, if I remember correctly). What ever happened to that guy in Virginia who found Al Holbert's Rothman's Cup development/ prototype car? I seem to remember he picked that thing up for a song.

Hey, wait. I think that might be Sean's car just above me. The gray one (door, mirror, and interior shot) was a car Holbert built/ ordered as a development mule for the Turbo Cup series. I wanna say it ran in the Escort/ SCCA series (?) as one of two Rothman's sponsored factory race cars. Great Porsche found-under-a-tarp story.
Nevertheless, I've been spunkin' off to the Cup car in the newest copy of Excellence. Those cars are friggin AWESOME, man. The Excellence article said the car they covered (along with the owner- a PCA instructor) is seldom embarrassed by anything except new GT3's and GT2's and the like. Like I said; just friggin AWESOME, man. What's the going rate for a decent condish Cup car, anyway. Not some fully resto'd garage/ show queen, and not a track-***** DOG of an example. Fifty, sixty grand. Less? Just wonderin'.

I am not sure price wise, but I think you would be better off modifying a nice 951 into a cup car... not that many different components. Did that cars all have brake balance controllers from the factory?

Carl, dunno, but methinks if it factory that it was a standard upgrade/ install for the race series. Yeah, you're right, a guy could build a badass clone for the dough, but that wasn't really my point. Were I ever to be in that position someday, I'd pony up the cash for a true Cuppie just for the cool factor.
Besides, cloning a TRUE Cup car would require the mag- phones and intake, the 'glass hood, the thinner glass, and so on. I'm sure those parts ain't cheap. Doesn't change your point that, YES, one could build a rippin' turbo for the same, if not LESS money (just look at Ski's car!). I just like the whole FACTORY racer thing, man...

I agree, but as the number of cup cars quickly decreases the chances of finding a truly perfect un molested one is nearliy imposiible, although I would LOVE to find one for a decent price. The way to do that would be to find one from someone who doesn't know what they have, if that is possible, but I doubt it. Poor cup cars....
