944 Cup cars are out there---you need to speak to the right people. I know of 2 that changed owners within the last couple of months. Another car of interest might be a 968 Firehawk.
Are you trying to make a clone/replica (engine/suspension/etc), or are you solely going for the "look"? Factory cars with all their pedigree will always hold their value.
Oh yeah, if you ever come across a car that is in "perfect condition and never bent" don't believe it.

Carl, I wasn't implying that there are only 6 Cup cars left. There were only 7 imported to America, and those were pre-Cup Turbos. The car that Sean found for 2 grand just happened to be the one that Holbert used for endurance racing, and the factory used those cars as the basis for the Turbo Cup cars around the globe (or, so I've heard). They had Fuchs wheels (16x8/9) and a standard hood, but the rest of the Cup car goodies adorned the 7 prototypes (dare I say, the Magnificant Seven?).
But like you've seen by now, Cup cars are finding their way into Americans' garages. I'm guessing they're Canadian cars (the one in Excellence was). I don't think that's TOO outrageous a price for the one for sale, though. The price was $80 CAD, which is roughly $60-65 USD. Not bad when you consider the seller was tossing in 3 sets of mags (gotta be at least $4-5K per set) and that the car had new Rothman's decals. Maybe I'm silly, but I'd say these cars are WAY underrated for what they are.

currenly just going for the look, It started as wanting some vinyl race numbers for autox and DE's and then I got in contact with someone that can make some pretty neat stuff for me. My car is just an '84 944 na with new koni yellows all around, Factory LSD, White 16" phones, nice 15" fuchs, turbo front springs, and about $2000 worth of parts I put on in the last 6 months. Once I blow this motor, I am going to put in a 968 motor, I am already working on making my own fiberglass body panels, using molding techniques. Its a fun little car, and a money pit, but I love it.
LETS SEE MORE CUP CARS!!!!

Carl, you can actually make 'glass fenders cheaper (and of equal quality) than the ones on the market? I think ANY 3L 944 with the RS treatment would be a rippin' track machine. Certainly no Turbo Cup car, but more fun than a barrell o' monkeys for sure...
That blue one up there. Is that marine blue? Real nice, man. Dude, I think Rennlist should have a monthly "Cool race cars that would kick your A$$" thread. We could do Can-Am cars one month, then the '74 Penske IROC 911's, then 964 Cups, the Dakar racers...

One of thirteen? He's a bit off. Did he give you any more info that that?
Not much. I spoke with him last night at our PCA Christmas party. He did say that the car came from the collection of one of the founders of Cingular, and it only had 13,000 miles. I'll try to get a photo of it.

Taylor, I am working on a fiberglass hood, fenders, and front bumper, I will start with the bumper and see how it turns out. It should be very possible to make them cheaper than what you can find for sale on the market. I think a LIGHTWEIGHT 944, with a 968 motor would be a barrel of monkeys!
Me and you, lets do it, a monthly Rennlist Race Car of the Month Thread!
I have the full french article about that blue car, its in french though obviously, maybe I'll start another thread and post it for our december car...

Nice to see that my car has showed up on three places in this thread. Have a look at this link for more pictures: http://caesar.99kr.com/~ixbauto/Porsche/951cup%231/
