Because it uses ****ty value statistics and has no consideration for buyers appeal or collectible value and appreciation what so ever. In the Blue Book, a car simply loses value as it gets older, no matter what make/model. period.
The Blue Book prices are based solely on a fixed depreciation rate from the list price back when it was new. They are NOT a good representation of the fair market value.

Hmmm, i am not sure, i know there are a few pieces of the car still around. PM sh944 and ask him, since all the parts are at his house. I know the box itself was trashed, but dont know if he kept that strap.
And 944J, ANYTHING can be repaired, but it would have taken a couple grand in parts just do the body work, new radiator, 2 new fenders, new Left strut, new hood, new headlight assemblies, new headlight bar, new turbo bumper, new radiator fans, new blinkers, new fog light, new header panel, new radiator expansion tank. If you want to try and find individual prices on all that stuff, i think you would quickly find that you are up to about 4k just to have a repaired car. But i guess in your book that is ~2k. Oh plus body shop time to fix the frame.
