REQUEST TO TONE DOWN AVATARS!

It's like a train wreck!
You seem to be missing the point here. If the avatars on the board are not appropriate for your work place then turn off the avatars. You keep bringing up this point over and over and the solution is so simple: turn off the avatars.
You've tried asking people to "tone down" their avatars but it seems they won't so you should try a new tack. Maybe you should turn off the avatars.
It comes with the software and it's there for a purpose. That way if the avatars offend you you can turn them off rather than asking 25,000 people to conform to your will.

I won't turn off a feature John paid money to have installed.

Tom,
I have read your posts with interest in the past and think it would be terrible to lose you. Especially over a matter as small as this! It would really be a pity to lose a member over this petty issue.
Can't we just compromise on this one a little bit and you turn them off at work? (as can anyone else who finds them innappropriate to their veiwing area)
best wishes
Glen
PS Compliments to John D to have the humility to put his opinion on hold (as I have noticed in the past) and uphold the standards of the 250,000 in this community. I do not believe we should have no standards, just ones acceptable to the majority of people in them. There will always be people at either end of the spectrum.
I am pleased females around here can show their faces, imagine trying to pick your new partner through a veil!
Peace and best wishes

Schlicten, you are talking about Pornography. None of the avatars qualify as ****.
I think any boss/woman/wife/significant other, can appreciate the difference between a tasteful photo of a pretty girl being used as an avatar, and a 600x800 scan of the playmate of the month.
The "charter" does specifically prohibit sexually suggestive posts - which the girl in pink avatar surely was, but I liked Paz, Adrianna, and Mike's sister!!!!! (sorry Mike, but she's gorgeous...) and I think they were ok.
Someone said it earlier: Porsches and pretty girls go together like Burgers and Fries!!! But hey - If some people want to post buff man photos of themselves, hey, that's up to them, I'll just deal with it, and if anyone gives me a hard time about it - I'll explain it to them! I'm not going to ask the users to change it because I'm too embarrassed to explain myself.
Alright, that's the final post from me on this. I'm going to shut up before I really **** someone off.

well, I agree that some of the more rescent avatars have been a little over the top.
Mine has a tendancy to give one a sore neck.
I have not heard if anyone has a problem with mine...
I hope not..

John D is a class act. His responses are tempered with an inordinate amount tact and dignity. I applaud his effort to attempt to "stay out" of this debacle.
The answer to this issue seemed so simple, alas it was not acceptable to one. Refusal to check a box and accept the responsibility for not viewing a 200x200 picture has led to one person's voluntary withdrawl from the 'list.
Maybe there will be a benefit.

Tom, you and I have shared a few PM's in the past, opinions, and love for mullets and V-8's. I respect you, and for the record, I ADORE that pic of your daughter in your avatar. It is without a doubt THE CUTEST avatar on the board. Also, I think that those who posted asking for a withdrawal of Tom's avatar because "kids are offensive" just to make a point proved a point alright...
That being said, I'm having a hard time seeing what's all the hub-bub, Bub? How come Danno's avatar didn't come under fire? That chick is SURELY looking like she's trying her BEST to get off on that emblem. Tell me I'm wrong. I dunno, we can argue this crap in and out until the supermodels are old and past their primes (27 in human years), but I'd still end up confused. How are WE accountable for your actions, man? You were the one who got caught surfing the web at work; ultimately offending your boss and the cleaning lady.
Maybe the real question here in what Brian (BeerBurner) said in the Poll thread. Kevin Baker (the guy whose avatar is in question with you) and I used to share the same desk on Friday nights, and we got VERY proficient at keeping our Boss-lady off of our backs. And this whole thing sounds like your just worried that a co-worker is gonna think you're surfing ****, when in fact, it's just Rennlist.
God love ya, Tom. Hope this doesn't doesn't mean we can't share mullet stories anymore...

Tom, et all; my apologies if the avatar was/is offensive. I feel the need to offer you all an explanation. Simple, others have been "pushing it" with avatars, and I felt inclinded to due my part. I do apreaciate a beautiful woman's form. Not that I'm so insecure with my maturity that I NEED to stoop to that level, I felt like being a little over the edge and so there I went. Yes, it is a bit risque, but it is not any more so than the cover of Cosmopolitan or any ad in Victoria's Secret. How many of those lying around the house/office? So do I think my avatar offensive? NO. Eleanor Rosevelt said it best when asked if a foriegn dignatary had offended her, she replied that one can only be offended IF THEY choose to be. Being the community minded person that I am, I will change the avatar in a minute.

You know they say we all get our 15 minutes of fame, guess I got mine!
