Default Coil Overs

Have any of you used these http://www.paragon-products.com/product_p/944arhk-r.htm ? Im thinking about eventually upgrading my suspension, and i was wondering what would be the highest acceptable spring rate for a road car. I want a stiff suspension but dont want to get air over every single bump.

Thanks.

If you are not upgrading the rear at all, it would probably be good to stick with 200 or 225 lbs/in. springs. You can match 250# springs with a 968 M030 rear sway bar, I think.

Is the rear sway 16mm or 18mm? The 968 M030 is 19mm and adjustable, so it would probably be better to have that than just the stock 951 rear one.

JUst did the front kit on my car....and new struts.....with 200# springs...Very happy with the results.....worth the money....If you dont track the car, 200# springs will work just fine for the street....

What's more important than the rate is the damper. What feels unacceptable on one car may feel perfectly fine on another just because of different dampers.

In my quest to improve the ride on my coilover equipped turbo G20 I found two major factors in feel.

The first is you absolutely MUST have enough travel in your suspension that you don't bottom the suspension. Closely related is to make sure you don't coilbind the springs. Feels the same, just doesn't damage the dampers.

The second is good damping. If the damping isn't good the car will either bounce a lot or not feel like it's soaking up the bumps. A good set of Konis or Bilsteins should accompany any spring rate increase above what has been mentioned here. I think you will find people running much higher rates around here who are happy with them, but they are running much better dampers.

i think you can do more then 250. Look at jeremy! (Tifosiman) He's running 400 and 450 IIRC. how are the roads up there? of course if their bad, you dont want to stiff.

Eyal 400 bounds would be like someone tying you to the back of a truck and towing you on the ground and 10 miles an hour on a cobblestone driveway....

I have 400lb coilovers and they are not too harsh for the street at all, IMHO.

Yes, they are harsher than stock (of course!), but they are certainly not unbearable. There wasn't much of an increase in harshness when I went from 250lb welts to 400lb hypercoils.

The car is not my everyday driver (maybe once a week on weekdays and an event every weekend or two during the summer, 3K miles per year tops). But even then, compared to my Pathfinder with cushy springs and tall-azz tires, it still does not seem too extreme (other than the fact that the seating position and ride height in the two is totally different----my azz in the truck is at about the same height as my head is in the car.)

This analogy: "Eyal 400 bounds would be like someone tying you to the back of a truck and towing you on the ground and 10 miles an hour on a cobblestone driveway.... " sounds a little over the top to me. Andy, have you actually been in a car with this set up?

Pete944 and Sean Mcmanus can chime in here as well. They've both spent some quality time in my car.
