1990 944 S2 dyno - firehawk chip
Well I finally had the S2 dynoed with the factory Firehawk chip.
As you see, the graph is very consistent, the horsepower and torque curves on all of the runs were the same shape. The difference between these two runs (shown) were that we warmed up the car a little bit more for the higher horsepower run. The oil pressure was still at 4.5bar at idle, so I feel that I have a few more horses to be unleashed.
As you can see, the best run produced 193.3 rwhp and 193.3 lb-ft of torque (with about 170 lb-ft@the wheels available at 2500 rpm). These numbers convert to about 227 bhp and 227 lb-ft of torque at the flywheel using 15% conversion (loss) factors. Not too bad considering these cars were rated at 208/211 bhp/torque from the factory.
Just thought that I'd share.

Looks impressive!!
Do you have a baseline dyno run without the firehawk chip?
How much did the chip run you? Where did you get your hands on one?
I am seriously considernig this 'upgrade' for my 89 944S2.

Last time I heard about that chip somebody was saying they could get copies of them for like $500...pretty steep but for almost 20 hp?? I think that's definately still going to be the cheapest way to get real power from an S2

Heh, The chip is not, and never was available to anyone but the teams that bought firehawk S2's. The Porsche factory never sold the chip. I paid an arm and half a leg for it, but I love it.
I might be convinced to make copies of it.. PM me if you're seriously interested.
Subjectively, the car is a blast to drive, there is power everywhere. It feels very quick. The exhaust note sounds more aggressive (I figure that's from running more advance) and the car is completely drive-able. I usually find myself trundling around at 2000-2500 rpm in town with lots of torque available. I used to drive around 3000 rpm with the stock chip to get the same feeling of responsiveness and torque. There is also a really nice kick at about 4000 rpm. In full battle mode, this car screams!
I guess having the factory resources to make a race chip gives you a really nice chip. Most of the other chips for the S2's don't quite match up.
Unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to get a baseline for the stock chip.

Oh, and if anyone cares, I average about 22 MPG (on the original 160k mile O2 sensor - should replace that) for mixed highway/city driving. The best I managed was 29.4 mpg on a long highway trip at an average of 85 mph. Worst was 20.3 mpg so far.

Here is the dyno chart from my old S2 with the stock chip.... The motor was balanced and blue printed with a 5 angle valve job......
Stock class motor.....

Note how rich it was running.... under 11:1 in the upper rpms.......
The car also hade a free flow filter in the nose panel, free flow exhaust with no cat, and the first oversize pistons...... Ohh and light p&p ..... So it goes to show you that the motor is pretty optimized!!
