Damn, that was quick. Nice work. I'd love to see pics but I get when you're moving fast you don't want to waste time. Congrats. How is it running?

THx guys. The engine seems to be running nice. As for rolling, not yet... I have to clean the garage up and then I'll take some pics.

@pfarah7 : Is there a DIY you can point me at for rekeying the locks in these cars? My new-to-me 968 looks to be in about a similar state to this car and I'd like to go through the same kind of baselining that you're doing. It was funny to see that balance belt shot; that's what I also found on my new project. Like you, the timing belt looks OK, and I've turned the engine by hand already so I think things are OK. I'm nowhere near as far as you on getting things back to normal though.

Looking good.

Thx!
There is a YouTube Channel (Edredas) that posted a video on rekeying locks. One tip: Be prepared to file a couple of the tumbler slides if you can't make them all flush and watch out for those small springs popping out.

So, I took her for a quick drive around the neighborhood with no steering wheel or seat (not recommended).

Then, put her up on jack stands for a chassis power washing.

The worst body damage is actually the seat rail mounts and some rust in the general area. Luckily, nothing substantial.

The rear is actually in very nice shape.

There are a number of electrical issues that I'm addressing, albeit slowly... I did purchase a nice used set of Yakima roof rack mounts (as part of the Safari build). More to come...

Nice work, love the vice grips and tire/pillow. LOL. Memorable first drive for sure.

It was... Never got her out of 2nd gear (for obvious reasons). The machine shop finished milling down the aftermarket horn ring boss so I test-fitted the steering wheel with positive results. Also, some progress today: Got both window regulators to work (although the passenger side is quite noisy), both fog lights turn on, the driver's side power mirror is operational but the passenger side just clicks (I swapped out the mirror switch, joy stick and actual motor/mirror assembly with no results.

The turn signals are a mess; there's a partially melted connector that I need to replace: The wire harness was labeled "41" at the factory. Anyone that has a spare harness, or even a connector in good shape (I can remove/replace the sockets), please let me know.

Both AC and fresh fan motors do not switch on. I removed the fresh blower fan and it bench tested fine so I'm leaning towards the fan relay. Fun fun fun...

Good morning, so you don’t feel unloved... I have an old harness in the “garage.” Checked, but don’t have that connection. May not be shared with later models.

Thanks for checking! You are correct, the later models wiring changed... Thanks anyway.

Patrick
