I thought I would just post this info here as well.
When I took my dismantled engine to the machine shop months ago I asked the owner a bunch of questions. I showed him the cam and asked about the dark "worn" areas on some of the lobes. He said that was actually the remains of the Parkerizing that the cam was fully coated in when new. So the dark areas are actually Non worn areas. I have three 944 cams and they all have this. He said the cam is in fine shape and very normal to see this. At least its one thing that doesn't need replacing.
