991 turbo versus 930
#76
You are not addressing the question of the OP.
You are insisting that his 1989 911 Turbo is something other than a 911 Turbo with pictures of service manuals for 930 models.
Those model service manuals do not change what the car is.
It is a 911 Turbo.

As a departing point to correct the misnomer that 3-liter 930’s were named “911 Turbo” by the factory, FIA homologation nr. 645 and nr. 3076 (934 and 935) only list “Turbo” and not "911 Turbo" for the production model on the registration paperwork.

Im saying a 1989 911 Turbo is a 930. You can call your vehicle either one and you are referring to the exact same car. Where is the edict that you cannot describe your car by model type?
A 75-89 911 Turbo is also a 930. Period. End of story. This is Porsche's internal factory model designation. Its what they called the car at the factory when they were building it, and the model type they advertised it as on their dealership window stickers. Nobody at the factory said, "Franz I need a 911 Turbo brake caliper...go get me one."
The question was "do I own a 930 or a 911 Turbo" and the answer is both. One is a name the other a model, but both are nothing more than descriptions, both published publicly and advertised such by PCNA. But its the same car. In fact, the model type is a much better and more descriptive term b/c it refers to a single generation, not a half dozen.
Whether you choose to use the name or model number to describe what you drive is irrelevant. Porsche used both. Owners can use either one -- or both if they like.
You are trying to split hairs that simply don't exist.
I vote this the most pointless thread in Rennlist history. Owners can call their car "Misty the Love Muffin" for all I care.

UDP is exactly right, they are all 930s, 75-89.
When you order a part from porsche for your 911 turbo, they might ask what year it is so they can tell whether it's a 930/965/959/993/996/997/991. A 930 and a 993tt are both 911 turbos but completely different, for example.

Clearly the model is 930 up to 1989 which automan9's car is. After that there are 964,993,996,997 and 991. But you know that.
I aspire to own a 2015 991 Turbo....err 2015 911 Turbo.
I have Chevrolet Corvette too and I never call it its model - 1YY. "Homey, take the 1YY to the store" never happens.
You can call your 911 Turbo a Kazoo but that does not make it a Kazoo. Yes, 930 is descriptive. Yes, 930 is the model. I will give you that. But it is not the name that Porsche has given their vehicle. You insist on calling one a 930? Knock yourself out but-->
The name is 911 Turbo

The OP asked if he has a 930, yes he does. It's on his VIN and all his model specific parts. That is the generation of 911 turbo he has.
To say OP is wrong to identify his car by the model number on his VIN is ludicrous. It is both correct and appropriate with all the different generation 911 turbo's out there.

His bill of sale says 911 Turbo, his registration says 911 Turbo, his title says 911 Turbo and it is on consignment with a known expert on 911 Turbos, Richard Sloan; who has it advertised as a 911 Turbo
Despite the smoke and mirrors about VIN numbers - yes there is a 93 and downstream there is a 0. But that is a stretch to say the car is to be called 930.
I have the Fahrzeugbrief from Dr.Ing.h.c.F. Porsche from Stuttgart for my 1984.
The Vin has a 93 followed by three letters then three 000s - interpret if you will that it is a 930 but the name of the car in German on that document is 'Ubereinstimmung mit dem Typ - 911 Turbo'
The OPs car is a 911 Turbo

It is not correct to call a 911 Turbo a 930 unless you are referring to the early 70s cars which propagated this generic use of the mysterious sounding 930 moniker.

You might want to update Marshall Goldman too-he has some nice 930S models that you claim he is trying to pass off as 930's.
Are you also suggesting Rennlist update this forum name as "911 Turbo OR 930 forum"?.
Isn't there a thread on the Corvette forum that needs trolling?

Straight from my original paperwork from Porsche, Ing.-->
Fahrzeugbrief from Dr.Ing.h.c.F. Porsche Stuttgart Ubereinstimmung mit dem Typ - 911 Turbo'
Your blacked out VINs mean nothing other than a VIN contains a 93 and then a 0. Hardly conclusive as to the name of the car. The model Yes . The name no. The warranty voucher just shows your VIN. I have no argument with that and have said so ad naseum here. Reading is fundamental
Ya got a title? Let see that. Oh right it says 911Turbo.
You are being stubborn and obtuse and are avoiding chiseled in stone facts. Marshal and Richard can make mistakes as the OP has. An ad that incorrectly calls a car what it is not is not proof of anything.
The car early on was a 930. It evolved to a 911 Turbo . Is your ego so large you cannot digest that mistake?
Where is the screen shot of automan9's car? Oh right, Richard Sloan knows that it is a 911Turbo and has advertised so. After all this is his second round at selling it.
You have reduced yourself to name calling? My Gawd. Such class for a Porsche aficionado. I though we as a group, were open to logic and facts without the necessity to call names when our feeble attempts at points are lost.
I am so proud to have this verbal gymnastics with you where you show just what a uneducated crass fellow you are.
Never mind facts and logic and history. Do not let them interfere with your preconceived thought processes. Facts and logic and history are just for us scholarly types.
Automan9's car is a 911 Turbo.

Whats your damage cityguy? You seem to have a very confrontational demeanor. If I said you are right and we are all wrong would that make you happy?

My thoughts exactly....that's why I chose not to continue to discuss the issue...seems like it's just not sinking in...no matter how we explain it
