Interestsing discussion - you learn something new every day. Guess our sponsor Rennlist should modify the discussionn forum title then - 911 Turbo (930) Forum - or those of us with "newer" models of should refrain from such blasphemy. I still call my '87 a 930 anyway; 930 sounds mythical and not so ho-hum as your run of the mill 911 turbo...even though that's what it is. Unless we're saying that only real men own 930's and the rest are just wannabe's. Damn fine machines, no matter what we call them.

You are correct -->that is what it is a 911 Turbo and I made that point about mythical with different words.

Fixed it for ya---> no apostrophe there.

Aren't Turbo Carreras of the 1975-1979 vintage? Betcha he agrees with me on what to call 1986-1989 911 cars with a turbo charger --> 911 Turbos..

Did you read this thread? Your vehicles are all 911 Turbos and yes you got it wrong. Not a 930 in that list.

Incorrect...again.

Only US 911 turbos from MY76 and MY77 are called turbo Carreras.

good try but no cigar.....what is so hard to digest..ALL Porsche 911 Turbo from 1975 to 1989 are type 930.
1975 Can be called a 930, a 911 Turbo or a Porsche Turbo.

1976-77 can be called a Turbo Carrera, Porsche Turbo,911 Turbo or a 930

1978-89 can be called a Porsche Turbo,911 Turbo or a 930.

A 991 Turbo is called on PORSCHE's Website..you guessed it..a 911 Turbo.
Yes you have owned 4 911 turbo's but only one 930...

So the op asked "is his 1989 a 911 Turbo or a 930"...it's BOTH!!!!!!......time for alcohol;-)

It cannot be both.

His Bill of sale, the Porsche brochure, his Owners Manual, his title and his registration all say 911 Turbo.

Parts for it have numbers starting from the inception of the vehicle in 1975 as 930 in some areas but that is the only mention of 930 with regards to his 1989 911 Turbo.

Time for alcohol? Way ahead of ya pal but thanks for mentioning it. It is hot and humid here in Boston. Time for a cold one....and fireworks.

Hey when you get a chance(before the alcohol kicks in) read a copy of Bruce Anderson book Start with the ending of page 16 into 17 easy link http://books.google.com/books?id=rOK...page&q&f=false

Hopefully that might shed some light for ya

Thanks great link.

Quoting from page 27-->

"1986 was year for great rejoicing among Porsche enthusiasts as the 911 Turbo (930) was reintroduced to the United States, Porsche wanted to call it the 911 Turbo and drop its 930 designation"…two more paragraphs on specs follow calling it a 911 Turbo.

930 was officially dropped from the name with the introduction of the 1986 model.
