Default My "new" '86 930

I took delivery over the weekend of my '86 930 Black on Black. The car is simply amazing. The factory options were right and left sport seats, limited slip, and sunroof. It was delivered with 65,021 miles. Purchased for $32,500.00. I would rate the interior as excellent (leather is perfect, leather dash has no cracks, original carpet in excellent condition). If the cig lighter is original, it's never been used.

The exterior is very good. The side mirrors have quite a bit of touch up, there are 5-6 other touch up areas, but overall, the paint is excellent and there are no dings- very straight panels too.

Both doors feel as if they sag a bit (when I open them, they seem to drop about a quarter inch- I'm sure they're adjustable. It looks like the windshield is brand new. Fuchs are unblemished aside from weight adhesive here and there.

The drive: Simply amazing. This is a stock motor with a B&B and it simply pulls and pulls and pulls. The power spike is great after 3000 revs and before I know it, it's time to find a higher gear. Compared to the 993 I'm used to, this power delivery is brutal and addictive.

The four speed is really a lot of fun to use. There is no slop in the throws- they're really long, but the "gates" are really defined and I've had no problems getting to the gear I'm wanting.

I'm going to have to do something about the suspension I think. In first and second when the turbo kicks in, the back end plants to the point that it feels like the front wheels are coming off the ground and I need a wheelie bar on the back to keep the back bumper from being ripped off by the pavement. Maybe it's just something I need to get used to, but it seems like a LOT of squat on turbo tip-in.

I love the steering feel and the wheel itself- it feels just right to me. I thought that mid-turn the turbo would be an ON/OFF deal, but it's quite elastic and you can adjust the throttle mid turn a lot easier than I thought I would be able to.

Overall, I'm very happy with the car. I would appreciate any suggestions on suspension applications. This will be a car mostly for the street with an occasional DE thrown in.

Welcome Darth Vader. Feel the power of the dark side. Seriously, the car looks great, good luck keeping it near stock I will give you two weeks before you are on here asking about mods for more power.

about your suspension..

1) 22mm & 31mm (or 33mm if you go for some high hp mods) torsion bars.. get the hollow ones.. Sander Engineering, I think..

2) Bilstein strut inserts(HD front & Sport rears)

3) adjustable swaybars: 23mm/27mm - Smart Racing

4) Front tower brace (A triangulated one is best but just connecting the struts is better than nothing - lots to choose from, I like the Elephant Racing triangle unit)

5) Bump steer kit

6) Lower car to Euro height -10mm and align and corner balance...

Hopefully your bushings are ok but I doubt it.. have a look at Elephant Racing's bushing solutions...

You can go waaaayyyy further than that if the track-bug-bite-infection is terminal, but you can research that yourself...
MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

You could just fit RSR coil over shocks at the rear (or all over) to help your exsisting torsion bar suspsension. It will then be easy to change the spring rates and adjust ride height and damping.

Does this look like a good price on RSR fronts and rears? This is all I'm finding per Google.

I was thinking get them from Stephen of Imagine Auto.

Looks like Stephens kit includes the coil springs.
