If you didn't want to do that I wonder if you would consider getting your tranny bellhousing shortened so you could move the engine further into the car. You would need to have the input shaft taken out of the tranny and possibly built up as well as shortened. You could also find out how much distance you could gain from this. Maybe it is not much, not sure.
I've seen guys on the board (125shifter comes to mind) that have fabbed a solution without any cutting- that's really the route I'd like to go if possible.

Off topic I know, but to a point - I've pretty much just completed modding my M3 Cabrio (extensive suspension, body, CSL headers, exhaust, etc. ~ $45k invested in mods & ~310 to 315 RWHP for NA). I've owned 2 911's - one a modded 911SC and another a 996. After seeing your project I've decided this is what I really want and got to get a 930. My favorite Turbo! I'm very impressed to the extent I need to sell my unique M3 "V-CSL".

Nice work bro!

Thanks Gonz, but if you do some searching on this site you'll find much more inpirational builds than mine.

Appreciate the compliment though, and good luck with your search.

I've seen quite a few already. I do appreciate your approach though and would undertake something very similar.

Here are a couple more photos of the build. The engine is in, the wiring is finally complete and we may start the car for the first time today.

Here's the car before being lowered onto the engine:

The pressure plate/clutch assembly:

It's nice to see the car sitting (almost) normally again:

Looking at the build list on post #49 I think you will make it...Are you keeping the HFS or are you going with HF2? The HF2 might take you comfortably beyond that goal but I do realize too that the big numbers are not necessarily the object here.

Wheels are Lindsey's http://www.lindseyracing.com/mm5/mer...=WHEELSLINDSEY
You need to first find (4) 6x16 donor Fuchs. They cut out the centers and weld them into 17" barrels. It takes about 2 months once you get them the cores. I got myself a set earlier this year.

Yep they're Lindsey's as DougM said- last time I talked with Mike he was working on a wheel that didn't require any donors. It sounded like he was going to make them from the ground up himself. You might want to ask how that's coming along before you hunt down donor 16's- it's a PITA.

When I did my wheels, Mike was giving a $150 per donor wheel credit towards the finished product. Mine were $2,850.00 minus the $600 core credit plus $77.00 for shipping.
