"While You're In There..."
So far my "new" engine consists of:
-B&B Headers
-B&B Intercooler
-ARP Head Studs
-ARP Rod Bolts
-K27-7200 Turbo
-Tial Waste Gate (.80 spring)
-Fabspeed "Zork" Tube exhaust
-Stock Ps&Cs
-Rebuilt Stock Heads
-All new gaskets, bearings, seals, and hardware
-All new clutch
-Wevo Semi Solid Engine Mounts
If you had an extra $500 to $700 to spend, would you invest in hotter cams, or IA fuel-head mod, or something else, or nothing else. Keep in mind that this car is my daily driver and that I NEVAR EVAR want to pull this engine again...NO MATTER WHAT! SHEESH! In other words: I'd like to be able to take a .44 magnum to this biatch and still have her start...bullet proof! As much as I'd like to, I just don't have the budget for twin plug ignition.

You could always machine the heads for twin plug, but just plug them up for now. This way you can upgrade to twin plug later without needing to take it apart.

Upgrade the turbo to the HF, SC or 964 cams and a real muffler (I have a magnaflow muffler - straight through design, no restriction - that I made up with a K27 4 bolt flange if you're interested). You will get real tired of the zork, real fast on the street.
That would be a real solid, reliable car that you could drive every day without any issues.

1. Fuel head
2. Turbo
3. Cams
4. Twin plug
Of course the twin plug and cams are hard to do after the fact
Sounds like your in it pretty bad already, what's another couple grand?

Thanks guys. I already have the K27-7200 (it's only got about 300 miles on it) so a new turbo is out of the question...would be a waste of $$$. As for the exhaust, I already have a B&B single out muffler, should the Zork tube start bothering me.
Maybe I'll go ahead and twin plug the heads (plug them for now), do the cams, AND the fuel head mod.
Stephen, what's involved with ordering the cams and fuel mod? Do I send you my old stuff as cores? Also between SC and 964, which cams do I want? Is there another that I should consider? Is there a down side to not going with the stock 930 cam?

If you do not plan on going EFI and want the most mid and low range with drivability do the SC. The band best matches the 7200 on the street with CIS. The stock 930 cam really isn't do much for the car in general. It will make a huge difference.

why oh why didn't they just use fully finned cylinders
Can anyone please tell me why the company that has been nothing short of a religon to me (Kingdom Hall of Porsche) didn't use fully finned cylinders on this engine? Really, WTF? Can't tell you how many Type 1 VW engines I've had in my stand over the years, but they ALL had fully finned cylinders to match the fully finned heads! So now that I'm trying to figure out a way to build a 300,000 mile turbo motor ( ) I'm calling into question everything. Did the 965 have fully finned cylinders? Is this worth considering? I have a contact here with a local parts house that can get me parts at mechanic's pricing. Provided my pistons are usable, can I order just the fully finned cylinders? I'm just trying to work out the weak links.

The 930s did not come with fully finned cylinders because Porsche thought that due to the way the fan pushes air over the cylinders that the top did not need the cooling fins and without them, they would have more even temps over the entire cylinder. The 965s have fully finned cylinders.

Yes, you can order them to use your OEM pistons. You can change them.
As stated Porsche finally figured out they were barking up the wrong tree and went fully finned on the C2Turbo.
