Hardly. Consider that at every step along the way in my Porsche lifetime (again, since I was 18 in 1980, and through owning two Porsche specialty shops) there has always been bitch and moan about Porsche X being "unaffordable." Even when you could have the pick of pretty much any '73 RS for ~$20K.

Agreed. There are still plenty of $25k 911s to be had. That's a bargain for a proper Sportscar, even if it is a 35 year old one. I see so many posts about how enthusiasts are being priced out of the market. What a load of Sh...

I bought a $25k Subaru new 15 years ago as an enthusiast driver. That's not even a real Sportscar. Find me a new $25k Sportscar today. A Mazda 3? No. That's a touring car. What's a Miata cost? Too many people were spoiled by bargain 911s for too long.

This bubble is so frothy and hot I just got another air cooled To add to the stable. Wait what?! I'm not good at financial management. Don't follow my lead. I buy to drive and enjoy.

I do you one better. My first sports car was a Honda Civic si hatch. How's that? Fat can exhaust to boot! Fake bbs mesh. Cut springs for slammed look.

Problem with those sort of cars is that they feel hollow ... Lots of zing but not enough omph, all well until you hit headwind or sidewind or a sharp uphill and they certainly don't age gracefully either.

Has the price climb really slowed? There's a 93 C2 coupe, tip with 92K miles for sale on Craigslist near me for $40K. And a 90 C2 coupe in the RL classifieds for $64K.

On the flip side the mechanic I take the cars to has an 81 SC for sale for $20K. It even still has it's original 85mph speedo and cookie cutter wheels.

SCs didnt come with cookie wheels as far as I know, only with regular fuchs. If it's sitting at $20k it must be a very rough car. Half decent targa SCs sell in the low 20s all day long, and mid 20s for the coupe.

These are the original wheels according to the original owner who sold him the car. 15x6 and 15x7. Paint needs a good buff since it's a little cloudy on the roof, but other than that it's a solid well running car with original paint. It's an odd color. Don't know the color name but it it's sort of a dark copper color, with a dark brown interior. I think cookie cutter wheels were standard, and the Fuchs optional, though most U.S. cars came with Fuchs.

Any known collisions? Any bodywork or filler? What does the undercarriage look like? Any rust? Mileage? Service records? Head studs done? Anything aftermarket? Tranny shifts well? Cracks in the dash or splits in the seats?

I find it very hard to believe there's nothing wrong with the car at that price.

Where is the car located?

Rick:
In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a car broker or acting as an agent for this car. Was just pointing out that the market is all over the place. I told him he could get more for the car most likely.

Car is in Central Virginia. He picked it up from one of his customers. Paint looks all original and no signs of accident repair. Seats aren't ripped. Dash is typical 80s Porsche shrinking leather but no tears. so it's stretched a little around the center vents. 127K miles. Like I said, still has it's original 85mph speedo. Non spoiler car. Still sits at U.S. ride height. Last valve adjustment no broken studs. He just rebuilt the front calipers. Doing the rears. Name of the color is called Hell Bronze. Seats are dark brown. Under carriage is clean and not all rusty. Car was driven very little the last two years and sat in previous owners garage.

Cookie cutters were standard up through 81 fuchs were optional and became standard in 82. The cookie cutters should be painted silver.

Are they original or possibly painted later? All the SC's i have seen with them were silver. i am looking at an all original 16k mile 80 targa in the next week or two and see what it came with.

He said they've always been black since he's been working on the car the past 15+ years. He got the car from the second owner who wanted his son to have it, but the son has little to no interest in it so he sold it.
