Possible Project Car

Possible Project Car
My brother and I were driving and spotted an old yellow 911 sitting on a trailer under some trees. We decided to stop and check it out, it was extremely beat up. A barn find without the barn if you will. I walked around looking for someone to talk to and the owner was there and said it was for sale. He wants around 3 grand for it. It's a '69 targa, looks to be euro spec to me, it has its original german registered plates on it. He says it runs but doesn't have drive. Any suggestions? My heart says yes but something else says no...

Thanks for the replies guys! The guy says its a '69 targa but the rear and front bumpers are from a 70's 930, not sure what's going on there. I will use that to crank down the price for sure. I know its a 69 body just by the shape of the rear glass and the hoop behind the front seats is a brushed aluminum. It's also carbed, which gives an indication of its age. My brother and I are going out to it again this weekend to get some vin numbers and run a regist. check. I had a quick glance under the car and no spot rust I could see. I'm only 19 and I'm working 40+ hours a week my entire summer to gather the funds to get my hands on this. I'm already aware how much money and how long it will take to get it on the road but I just want to have it in my possession and worry about everything else after. My buddy's dad owns musante motorsports (if you haven't heard of them go look, unbelievable place) and were going to have a closer look. I'm praying it sits there till the end of the summer.

I think 3k is actually a really good deal, I've seen people try and peddle 911 projects for a LOT more than that out in AZ and LA.... Some idiot down in Tucson wants 5k for an 83 cab that has no motor, no tranny, no driveshafts, and no interior, and the top is done for
So yeah having all the pieces there, no rust, heck running for 3k seems like if you could get him down more thats just money in the pocket.... um where are you located by chance or where said car is located??? I'll make sure its not sitting there til the end of summer haha

HAHA no way mate! I'll let you know if I don't end up getting it but yeah it's an older gentleman who already has 20+ classics so he doesn't seemed too attached to it. I think we can get him lower than 3 and that way I'll have it and do a little at a time. I want it clean enough to eat off

Be a Friend! I need a new rally project car! I WAS looking at a 87 turbo saab or a mistu starion, but a late 60's 911 is WAY better haha
Anyways hope the car turns out well for you, and you can get your hands on it!

I'm only kidding, I'm in New England so a bit of a haul for you. A saab 99 turbo would be too cool! I hope so too, my brother and I have to pitch it to my dad, say your prayers...

it could be the best 3K you ever spent or the worst. Most of these derelict cars need everything and that is not cheap. Sight unseen, you can expect at least 20K just to get it moving safely. You say you dont see rust and thats a good thing I suppose, but it's there, or the front clip has been replaced, or the rear quarters have been smashed and replaced(hence the 930 parts). I would take your hard earned summer wages and place them in a growth fund so you can own a fine example of the 911 one day. remember it's sitting under that tree for a reason and that reason isn't cheap. The longer it sits there, the more reasons it should stay there arise. Offer $800 bucks (does it have forged alloy wheels?) and run if the old classic car guy doesn't accept. He's waiting for someone like you to come along and buy his mistake.
