Default Traded Boxster S for 1987 Targa

After 9 years of trouble free 2003 Boxster S ownership, I traded the old girl for an older girl; a 1987 Black on Black Targa with 65,000 miles. I've watched this board over the years and I feel like I have a good head start on a number of ownership issues. I had a PPI with excellent results, and I'm looking forward to the experience.

Wow - interesting move. I hope you're nothing but happy with your "new" car and look forward to your compare/contrast comments.

Very cool. In 2004, I went from a 2000 Boxster to a 1978 911. Loved the Boxster. Was a brilliant car, but I really wanted the classic Porsche I knew as a kid. I'd keep a Boxster around if my garage were big enough.

I've had two Boxsters ('02 and '08) and a 997 along with my air cooled cars. My air cooled 911's are still in the garage, the rest are gone. Nice Targa!

Outstanding move. You have traded a car for a legend and family heirloom. As the Boxster will depreciate and eventually be junked, the air cooled 911 will go up in value as long as you own it.

Well said. I have a short attention span car-wise. I typically get the itch after a year or so. I bought my Targa 2.5 years ago and have no plans on selling it.

It is hard to describe the driving sensation provided by these old cars but the only analogy I can muster is akin to flying a small aircraft.... Light, nimble and lots of sensory input.

I can't agree more... I had air cooled 911's for 17 years strait. For some stupid reason, I thought I would try a few new high-performance German cars. They were faster smoother but lacked any personality or soul. After losing a lot of money in depreciation with three of these newer performance cars, I had to return to my roots. I will never ever again be without a 911. There's even a distinct smell that the 911 air cooled cars have that no other performance car or even newer 911s has. It smells like a historic library draped in a leather. The smell is intoxicating to me. The old adage "if I have to explain, you won't understand" applies here.
