If you look at my case, at the top, there is a ring or line where the seal is. That's where it leaks. Let me try to re-post with an arrow. I may have to point at it unless someone else knows how to put the arrow on it at the top where the seal is.

just open the pic in paint and draw an arrow and save it ... that is what i do with a lot of pics

The 3.6 shaft is nice to have if you have evr seen a snaped 3.2 unit. Improper oil cooler plumbing will kill it.

That's a good point. I thought about it and am still thinking about it, but that is a good point.

Dentron,

How many miles were on that mill? Were you seeing lower oil pressure? What clued you in to the wear?

oh i see now .. so it just leaks past the end bearing ? okay now i need to ask a REALLY dumb question . As i have neveer had my engine that far apart .. what end is that ? they flywheel end or the crank pulley end ? and how would I know if it were leaking ?

Ice, it would be the Pulley end. The Main Bearing Seal.

Actually I was getting far too much smoke coming out of the exhaust at intersections. I have less than 100k so I'm not sure why this was happening. So, I just decided to start all over again with the motor both top and bottom.

so that can not be replaced with the engine in the car .. it has to be torn down ? wow . i guess I iwll kep an eye on that part of the car .. see if it starts to leak any more than all the others ..

There is actually sealant applied to the nose bearing when you put the case together, so you are correct-that gets replaced when the motor gets torn down.
