Default I need help,SC totalled, searching recent sale prices

My pristine 1983 911SC has been totalled. The owner of the body shop indicates that it is not repairable due to the severity of the impact. Harley rider hit me head on after losing control and laying it down in my path. He was killed instantly.

I am shaken but ok. These cars are built like tanks. I am thankful to be alive and very proud to have loved and invested in what was my 2nd Porsche. I pray there will be a third.

The adjuster is visiting tomorrow and I can already tell that he'll be trying to screw me.

68,000 miles, immaculate inside and out. I paid $20k for it 2.5 years ago. I do have the Excellence market update for 74-89 911s (August 2007 issue).

I am looking for anyone that can help me with data from recent sales of '83 (or perhaps earlier than '83 if it will help) 911SCs that changed hands.

THANK YOU everyone in advance, please email dabishop2@earthlink.net if you can help, I'll be tracking the inbox more carefully than the forum.

Dave,

I am really sorry it happened and I'm glad you are Ok without serious injury.

Never settle for the 1st offer.

Use the ssue of Excellence with the values and run a search on 911's with similar miles/condtion. also see if you can swap out any addtional mods with stock parts .

My Targa had a fire in my fuse box the same day you had your incident

Perhaps. DB_NC_83SC is simply now having to attend to the insurance issue at hand. All he is doing is reaching out for assistance from us in this matter. Let's see if we can help him.

DB_NC_83SC...PM sent.

My regrets over the whole affair. Its tragic someone lost his life in the accident, but now the business side must be taken care of. Your asset was destroyed by the other party's actions. I'd fight for what you feel is reasonable.

just a quick note to say thanks to everyone. I did the PCA valuation this morning, getting an appraisal from the specialist reseller at the shop where I went for service, thanks for all the comps, I'm girding for the fight that I hope will not be as bad as it could be. If they're WAY low on the first offer, I'll retain a lawyer to 'deliver' my counteroffer with all the documentation I can give him.

I had not seen the front of the car, I didn't look after the accident as the rider was lying there. I went to get my stuff tonight (while still light).
It was not as emotionally painful as I expected it would be. I was just totally stunned and in awe of the strength of these cars.

I'm damned lucky to be alive and in one piece.

It has bent front frame rails, crumpled roof and floorpan, ripples through the side, bent 930S steering wheel, I could have easily been killed. I'm amazed. The car saved my life (that and the angle at which the bike hit me, the fact he had probably laid it down instead of spearing into me, etc).

I'll follow up with results, but I REALLY appreciate everyone's help and well wishes. My girlfriend and I are considering (if we can find info about the rider's memorial) sending something, perhaps anonymously, or from her. I would fear that something from me (with my name on it) could trigger more pain and I don't want that.

Its life riding a MC isnt the safest mode of transportation out there and if he lost control and hit you there was nothing you could do, PERIOD but move on. Its a sad thing that after 100yrs of transportation that all it takes is a lapse of judgment and it could result in your or someone elses life. Dont blame yourself one bit. Take care of your car and just keep the MC and his family in your prayers. ITS NOT YOUR FAULT and dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

Man, I'm sorry to hear this, and RIP to the other fellow...I ride too. If I were in your postion, I'd want to have a "clear head" before dealing with an adjuster, so if you're not (I wouldn't be), I wait several days before even seeing him. From my perspective, the most "significiant" valuation is what you paid "just 2.5 years ago", with maybe some adjustment for any improvements you've made, additional mileage you've put on her, and the fact that SC/Carreras "seem" to have a bit higher "replacement value" than when you purchased her. From my understanding, in NC, they must compensate you for what it would take to "replace her" with a similar car. Good luck, and I wish you and his family well...

Sorry to hear about this tragedy! I recently sold my 1983 SC Cab for $20,000 and it was also recently totaled by the new owner. I was told his insurance paid him out $21,000. The car did have a number of mods including a 3.6 but, I don't think that the insurance even cared.
