Default Financial windfall! Suggestions?

OK...financial good fortune has smiled on me (nothing outrageous but nice nonetheless) and I am in the market for a 911. Any suggestions as what to belooking for? I have owned a 993 which I enjoyed very much but am looking for something a little more raw.

These are my parameters...lightweight (no need for bells and whistles), post-75, pre-89. What in there is an interesting, fun car that'll wow me?

Suggestions? Thx.

An SC from any year is a great car. although they aren't the fastest cars out there. they are a blast to drive and they are very raw car. If you can find a non-sunroof coupe even better.

Since you already have a 993, I would suggest going a little earlier than the 964 or 3.2. The SC is a good starting point.

Outside the parameters, but if you want raw, a nice early 911 is best (72 or 73 T would do great without breaking the bank). 75 (lowest year on your wish list) is an odd one, 78-83 SC is great, if you go carrera 87.5-89 have a supposedly better gearbox.

I'd go with an early car for raw fun, or an SC if you only want ot spend low 10s...

Keep in mind that as you go back in time you need to reserve some funds to fix up the engine. By this time it will have a myriad of air leaks, etc. The 911SC and the 3.2 liter Carreras are great cars!

I know a good red 86 down the street for sale. And to be brutally honest. It's the best sub 15k car I've seen. I don't really want to say anything because I was thinking about working something out, but I changes my mind
For sure drive a good 915 AND a g50 before you make a decision between 84-86 and 87-89

The only SC you will find for less than $10,000 will need a lot of work. God you people drive these car's values into the dirt. (but thats another topic altogether)

You want raw...get an early RS replica, or any longhood that has been modded.

I was lucky enough to trip over an 81 euro. Had the top end, tranny rebuilds, roll bar, lowered mildly modded, SSIs, LSD. Funnest car I have ever owned. I would suggest that you might try to find a car that has the mods you want. When I saw this car, there was no way I was going to let it out of my sight until I had the title in hand. I knew the seller, so there was no PPI in my case, but a deposit and inspection would have been prudent. It could have been a 3.2 just as easily, but this is the car that came up first, with all the goodies. Until I drove it, I was looking at G50 cars, and believe me, I wouldn't turn one down.

I just came out of an 89 Cab (same as 88). The 89 Cab had everything I could ever want except power. It was/is a fast car at top end and handled corners exceptionally well. the manual steering and brakes are to die for. The fact is, I always wanted more bite off the start and it just isn't there. My 993 has that extra kick but lacks the "RAW" as I once knew it. I cannot say yet that I like the 993 better however I can say I love the extra power. My suggestion is if you have the money, get a low miles, G50 911 Turbo 1987-1989 and you will have it all. If you don't mind the chunky 915 tranny, an earlier Turbo is also an awesome choice. Since you already had a 993, I believe the lack of performance of the earlier N/A 911 may come as a dissappointment.

I would love to hear from those who went from 993 to earlier 911 as they would have the best opinion on the transition.
