The thing is, this guy drives a 993 already. I think he'll get a similar 993 feel if he goes to the 3.2 Carrera. I don't think 10 years is going to make a huge difference for the feel this guy is after. The 3.2 is still a modern car with Digital Fuel Injection, power seats, power windows, all those nice things (except good AC). Otherwise, it's still a pretty modern car, IMO.

I have a nice 93 that's light, under 2800#. No bells and whistles and it will wow you. You could own for $25k. .....it has a salvage title though.

However, going to a long hood car that is at least 34 years old starts to push the reliability issue. These cars are very robust, but all old cars need constant attention and feeding.
Turbo's still have the same feel as the normally aspirated cars, just with a very different power delivery (and of course gobs more power under boost conditions). Braking is relatively the same and Turbo's came with a modified 915 based 4 speed transmission with the only change being the '89's with a 5 speed G-50.
I agree with flatsixnut that driving examples of all of these cars is really the only way to find out what a person wants.
At least it's fun to discuss this stuff!
