Default Oil Pressure & Hand Brake Warning Lights Flickering????

This just started a few days ago.

They flicker intermittently. But always both at the same time (together).

Firm braking and both will stay on continuously and then go off when you accelerate.

The only change made recently was the replacement of the oil pressure switch about a week ago because it failed and developed a massive oil leak.

Maybe the new pressure switch is faulty?

Maybe I failed to make a good solid connection with the terminal spade?

I'm puzzled as to why the parking brake warning light would flicker in connection with the oil pressure light. Are they somehow connected?

Any ideas as to what I might look for?

You're not confusing the oil light with the brake pad wear light are you? Are the 2 lights you describe located right next to each other on the center dash? The oil warning light is inside the gague that houses the oil pressue gague.

No, I'm not confusing them.

They're confusing me.

All three of the lights come on and go off simultaneously.

Do you have the Bentley manual? If not, I can check mine to see what the commonality is among these lights. It may be a common wire, ground or fuse.

Yes, they are connected. I would suspect your new switch has an intermittent ground problem and is defective. The behaviour you notice when braking and accelerating probably is caused by the varying oil pressure, not the brakes.

Hi All - My 85 3.2 Carrera Targa is doing the same thing. First start up after winter
storage. The engine starts - oil light goes out as normal. Then after warming up -
the Oil light comes on with both the Brake light and and
Brake pad warning light. Oil was low at first - so I added total of 3 quarts .
It is due for an oil change - but I am interested to know what the fix was to
this condition ? Thanks

I had a similar occurrence with my '87 Carrera. The seatbelt warning light and handbrake light started flickering on and off intermittently. It turned out that my alternator was going bad and the voltage fluctuations must have caused the lights to freak out. I replaced the alternator and the problem disappeared.

Well, I no longer have that car, so the problem is solved for me.

However, my P-tech said it "could be" the little circuit board behind that light panel.

It's best to avoid allowing your motor to run 3 qts low. Check the level more often and do so with the oil dipstick in the motor and not just the dash gauge. Add oil when it is 1 quart low.
