Default 1975 911 Engine Swap

Just purchased a 1975 roller an debating on the engine swap, LS7 or a newer 997 or 991 engines! No, I’m not going air-cooled. I would rather go with either the 997/991 turbo S engines. The plan is to restomod to a 930.

Has anyone here done this swap? Is the 997 3.8 Turbo S going to fit size wise? I don’t mind cutting up the engine bay reasonably

Thanks

I wouldn't mind the cut-up, but wanted to see if anyone has done it!

crazy money, rig up, hours and hours of work, and you will end up with NOTHING, cannot convert an air cooled 911 to a water cooled or electric mess of a car. Looks like someone put sc flares on that car. If I had it would put a 3.0 in it and make it a 73 RS replica, much more valuable and a terrific driver in that configuration

I've been around a LOT of modded air cooled Porsches and not seen a water cooled turbo in one.

Here's the pic of the 996 engine in a 912: https://rennlist.com/articles/porsch...a-gt3-cup-car/

As you can see it's been extensively flared.

The cup engine is same as the 996/997.1 turbo engine, except with more plumbing. So could it fit? Probably. But likely with extensive fabrication work on the routing.

i would say if you can put an LS engine in it go for it. probably easier to do and less investment to get what you want. its never going to be original anyway so why pay the premium for a Porsche motor ?

Nothing confuses my brain more than a 911 with a V8 sound! :-)

You guys are deviating away from the question a bit! The main question is whether anyone has done the Porsche 997/991 swap on an early 911; and hence, to share the info pls.

the only one I’ve seen done is in the below link, but no details.

I think you're not reading the responses. NO on a 996/7 turbo. But I posted a link to one with a 996 non-turbo(gt3), did you see that??
