To SRS or not to SRS
Greeting all,
First time poster on Rennlist but have been searching and reading various forums here over the years and have found this platform to be very useful.
I find myself in a bit of a predicament. Firstly, some context. I have been very fortunate tenough to own some lovely Porsche examples over the years. I currently own a 964 C4 which I have owned for over six years and absolutely love it. I am also lucky enough to own a 991.2 GT3 Touring which I've had for almost 3 years now. What an incredible car!! A while back I decided to put my name down for a SRS not really thinkng that I would get an allocation. I had owned at 981 Spyder prior to the GT3 T which I thoughly enjoyed. A few months back I received a call from my dealer saying that I had been given an allocation!! So the vehicle has been specced and is due to be built next month. The predicament that I find myself in is that I am not really in a position that will afford me to own all three cars. I really can't see the 964 going as it is such a special car and their values continue to increase. So either I will have to sell the GT3T or cancel my order for the SRS. 991 GT3T seem to be in big demand at the moment and continue to appreciate in value. It is such a drivers car and I thoroughly enjoy driving it. On the flip side I would hate to pass on the SRS and miss out on what seems to be a very special car and could potentially become a future classic. Ideally I would love to be able to purchase the SRS without selling the GT3T and then make a decision after having owned the SRS for sometime. This option will however put a significant financial strain on me.
Are there any SRS owners here that have owned either a GT3 T or manual 991 GT3? How would you compare them to the SRS? I know they are completely different cars but just wonder if I would be making the right decision to sell the GT3. As mentioned I'd hate to miss an opportunity to own SRS but also don't want to regret selling my Touring for one. I guess the decision would be easier to make if I could experience a SRS first hand.
Your thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Richard

You need to drive one and hear it. Experience the downshift bark. Either that does it for you or it doesn’t. Do you know any other owners in your area?
If you’re a die hard rear-engine dynamics guy or a MT-or-death guy…easy decision. If not, I predict you’ll prefer the srs.
Long term values? History says 911, but there has never been a car like the srs before, and it appears there never will be again.
Plenty of folks I know are driving theirs quite a lot. Long term values or not.

difficult decision it's like you'll get to eat a5wagyu but it can only be cooked in one way be it grill/teppanyaki/sukiyaki/shabushabu you'll have to stick with that. 1.2 touring will be more "prestige" & probably more sought after for majority of crowds with a 6MT to boot so safer choice. But if I were you I'd give srs a go coz it'll be a new experience to me. Another way looking at it would be save more $$$ and get a srs later when you don't have to sell the touring first.
Car wise I'm an open top guy & I have other cars to scratch my heel tow itch so srs would be my pick.

I think it depends on how you plan to use it or how do you use your GT3T..I did track days in mine and some road trips so for that I would keep the GT3T
If it's just a fun weekend toy with no real track duty or road trip duty then for sure I would dump the GT3T and keep the SRS. Its so much of a better ride its night and day and it feels more like that fun weekend sports car, its small and open top..

I never considered myself a convertible guy. Bought my (now ex) wife a 981 Boxster many years ago... and found it quite nice to have the top down on warm summer evenings. FFWD to today and putting the top down on my 718 Spyder is one of my fave things to do.
I'm a big "manual" guy (have a whole separate thread here...) and if it were my only car? I'd likely stick to your GT3T (even if it's not a drop-top). I turned down a MSRP SRS allocation to stick with my manual 718 Spyder. But you have the 964, which you said you're not getting rid of. If I were in your shoes then? I'd dump the GT3T for the SRS. You have the manual fun with the 964. Get the RS + drop-top experience with the SRS.
Worst case? Don't like the SRS? Sell it and go find another GT3T. The GT3T will be much, much easier to find, than to pass up the SRS and decide later you want one.

the ideal porsche garage (for non whales) is a 991.2 GT3T and an SRS.
Both are more special to drive and both made in smaller numbers than a 964.

I’m going against the crowd here. Keep the 964. It’s a totally different experience than the other two cars. Air cooled analog classic.
For all their differences, the two modern cars are more alike than dissimilar.

I don't think the SRS is a GT3 replacement. It would be a super collection.
Letting the 991 GT3T go for the right price could open the door for a 992 GT3 in the future. The 992 GT3 is an amazing modern update, and could complement the 964 and SRS.

One 911 and one SRS is the ultimate combo. The best of both worlds.
A lot of drivers are putting the SRS above the GT3. Search around and read, you'll see the consensus.
However, like another user has said, none of this matters, it only matters what you like.

I think the SRS will be the most fun car of the 3, and completely different from the 964.
However, if it's about value, I think the 991.2 GT3T will be a future classic to own. Less than 750 Tourings in North America, and 911's are the more desirable model in the brand. Their used value keeps climbing.
...or scrap both and try to find a 991.3 Speedster

We are talking here about two of the most enthousiastic Porsche cars, both magic for road trips or a sunday drive. Srs will be unique, when you could trade your 991 gt3T for a MT CaymanR and have quite the same fun on the road and the money

Three very different cars, none of which replaces the others. OP has to determine his personal needs and preferences, advice from others seems almost useless.
