It’s awesome that your dealership treats you so well. Offer data points so potential buyers have more information to consider. My recent pre inspection came out closer to $800. My post inspection would have been $600. But I talk them down to $450.

Pricing information I was able to gather,
In McLaren's warranty price guide, which also contains labor ops for specific inspections. The warranty time for pre and post inspections combined, is 2.7 hours. All shops in the market use a 1.5 multiplier to determine retail. That puts it at 4.05 (for pre and post inspections). Half of that would be 2.0 hours. Our current labor rate is $299.50/hr. that would be aprox 600.00 for the post inspection. I have gone ahead and menu priced the inspection at 1.5 hours, to make it less painful. Having said that, I am still coming out to $450.00 plus shop supplies and tax.

Take this for what it’s worth. I wouldn’t be surprised that dealerships see me as a big sucker and charge me high prices.

Woah that’s a bit much, maybe I can scan you a copy of my inspection invoice and your dealership can try to match? They are literally just checking brakes, tires, any possible leaks, and fluids and filling out the tech sheet for me. Something most of us can do ourselves but McLaren may not cover if something mechanical goes wrong during track.

Cost aside, having to make the appointments, getting the car there and back would be a big pain in the rear as well.

Oh yes, 💯. If you don’t live near a Mac dealer and plan to track often, it’s definitely not worth the cost/hassle for that “McLaren” feeling/speed. It’s also very convenient to sign up for track day the day before and not have to worry about an inspection with the Porsche.

Well stated. For those of us who have to stretch a bit to buy cars in this price range Porsche makes so much more sense. If you want leave reserve funds to enjoy the car track time, experiences, consumables it's a no brainer. It's Porsches secret sauce. I considered a McLaren twice and the desire was strong. They are an amazingly attractive alternative exotic. I can't trailer a Mclaren from Mpls to Chicago for service either..

While your not wrong, it's still a bit optimistic to think of a GT4 RS as even. a semi-affordable track car...

While I do track the 720S occasionally, and tracked the GT4 RS when I had it, my go-to car for track days is a modified 996 Turbo. Fun and challenging to drive, super durable, pretty cheap to maintain, and while it would really suck to back it into a tire wall, it would be a really bad day instead of a complete catastrophe.

I guess it all depends on your budget and goals... When I track the 720S (or previously the 4RS), it's more to explore the performance level of the car closer to it's limits on non-public roads. When i take out the Turbo, it's more to hone my driving skills and perhaps push the limit of it's capabilities.

My Lotus Elise was a cheap track car....so light, tires and brakes for days! Of course I struggled to hit 125mph when the GT4rs will hit 160mph in the same section of track.

McLaren would be very nice to have. I can only imagine how wicked it would be at Road America.
Closest dealership for me is 2hrs away; its in Chicago, I'm outside of Milwaukee, could very easily become 3hrs with Chicago $hit traffic...

So best case.....2hrs drive down, 1hr to "check", 2hrs to drive back. 5hrs to "track check the car". And then another 5hrs after the track-day to re-check.
10hrs wrapped up in track checks....for 5x 20min sessions. Maybe 5x 30min sessions....
Not counting the cost of these McLaren service checks ($500? $1000?) that time suck is huge.

Conversely, I can throw the GT4rs up on the lift, do brakes and fluids, check things over, pretty easily.
Or have 3 Porsche dealerships to chose from to check things over, one 15mins, one 35mins, or actually a 3rd 55mins away
Knock on wood, Porsche has also proven to be pretty reliable on track.

There are independent shops that can service McLarens. Look around for one if interested in a McLaren and far from a dealer. My nearest dealers are about 2 hours away, but I found an independent shop about 10 minutes way.

Philly Mclaren service will pickup and deliver to me for free and I'm 130 miles away.
