OK, we need some clarification on that modifier.... While we are comparing apples and oranges, what's your feedback on the 4RS vs. that 964 RS in your signature???

Previously owned 600LT/650S and currently own a GT4RS and 600LT spider. Also driven 675LT on multiple occasions.

There are pros and cons to both cars but if you have to choose one for 90% street, GT4RS. It is a car that’s so fun at low speeds as well as driving fast. The engine note and intake is one of a kind unique, it’s so exotic (Lambo loud inside) that no other Porsche has this feature. With the short gearing your slamming through gears constantly. It’s just as fast as a GT3 and on track it’s so balanced you can bully the car at any circumstances and it will take it. It may not be the sharpest or fastest, but it’s a pure fun machine that can also be quick.

McLarens is obviously more exotic but it comes with much higher maintenance, warranty and repair costs. It’s kinda a waste driving LT cars slow as the drama really starts when you go fast. If you can go really fast where you live then it’s the car. All the LT drama - pops, bangs, flames(on all macs), ignition cut shift (430 Scud raw), crazy power comes out only at illegal speeds. On the track, it’s very capable and most likely as fast or faster than most GT Porsches, but all that speed wears 3x faster in consumables. If you can afford it great, but it’s high maintenance.

Can’t go wrong with either.

4RS and 964RS have zero in common from a driving experience.

The 964RS is very raw and requires 100% of your energy to drive at all times. It's the perfect b roads car for me but too raw for the street and a nightmare in the city. I tracked it over a PCA DE w/end when i bought it 2 years ago out of curiosity and I was blown away by how well composed the car did on a fast track.

Ultimately I pick the 964RS as it was the Porsche car I idolized growing in the 90's.

Ownership and economic issues aside, if I was at the track and could pick either set of keys it'd have to be the 675LT.

The prices on the 675’s are still plummeting. Nice low miles coupes are 240-250k with msrp of 400k. At some point I gotta try one out. Not a lot of risk maintenance aside at these prices.

The current price for a 4RS does put one into the "Wow I could have bought a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (fill in the blank)" mode.

Yup, lots of choices in the 250k range(if you're buying a PTS, WP, Mag, PCCB, top tier spec 4RS). I still decided to go 4RS and don't have any regrets.

I don't get the required pre-track and post-track inspections required by McLaren. That's a major turn off.

Otherwise they seem amazing

Yeah, why are the pre-track and post-track inspections required by McLaren?

If you buy the factory extended warranty and want coverage for track usage the pre and post track inspections are required.

Depending on your dealership, some people will get an inspection to cover multiple track days. Usually the inspection is a few hundred bucks, like $250 ish, but again depends on the dealer.

My local dealer threw in the inspections for free for their dealer sponsored track event.

Most of us likely do some sort of pre and post track event maintenance anyway. However, having it be mandated to keep the extended warranty is uncool. Current pricing is about $800 per inspection even if the car needs nothing.

I haven’t driven the GT4RS yet (probably won’t get it until 2024Q3). But 2 of 7 of the McLarens I have had were 675 LT coupes. They are definitely special and amazing cars.

It very much depends on what you’re looking for. Rock solid, “simple”, naturally aspirated engine characteristics, cool intake sound, much stronger independent shops support would be strong plus on the GT4RS side (I am using extrapolation from 992.1 GT3T).

Incredible chassis and steering, lightweight, very powerful, boosted characteristics, attention grabbing are strong points of the 675LT.

If one intends to drive a 675LT, it’s around US$10k annually just for extended warranty (price going up in 2024), annual mandatory service, and insurance (assuming you get good rates). $1600 per track event pre & post inspection, consumables (can add up quick as the car is a monster if you use all the performance), running cost is easily 2x the GT4RS.
