I actually like the aesthetics of the 981 Spyder. Very old school Porsche albeit less aggressive looking than the 718 Spyder. That said, I could never go back to the 3.8 with the tall gearing or that passive sport suspension that felt both jarring and underdamped to me. If I had kept my 981 Spyder, I probably would’ve gone with the Deman 4.5 and had the MCS suspension kit.

Still the 981 Spyder it’s a very analog car that may be a future classic one day. And that 3.8 sure sounded great accelerating, even in stock form.

I loved both of mine, but the market was soft both when I bought them and sold them. Then COVID came and the world changed. For a while.

At this point I’d say that’s unlikely, unless you are very high on a dealer list already.

That wasn't my experience from 2017 when I got my 981 Spyder. They've been pretty hot since then. Nothing compared to the Covid period but that can be said for any car.

I bought the last ‘16 Spyder from my local dealership at the end of the run. There were dozens for sale in the US at that time, most below sticker. I paid below sticker and sold it a year later at a loss. Quickly realized my mistake and bought a used one and sold it in early 2020, again at a loss as the market for used Spyders was very soft. There was never a time pre COVID where Spyders were commanding premiums.

Pre COVID, you could get a super low mileage used Spyder for 15-20% under sticker. I know because I was competing with them to sell my second Spyder.

Depends on what you consider a premium. I consider any car that retained over 80% of its value after three years to be a premium. Of course not stupid money until Covid. But better than most by far. Always.

Well, there goes my dream 911.

The good thing is I can still play with my Spyder.

I bought my 2016 981 Spyder for 6 % off MSRP . Sold it 2 years later for 5 % off MSRP
as a reference point I just sold, last week, my 2021 Spyder for MSRP with 4700 miles, nice spec
as a comparison .I bought my 2021 GT4 for 2 k below MSRP , sold it for 10 k above MSRP a year later

But you lost taxes, I assume, or you traded it in? People too frequently leave off that detail.
