Pointless/Unobtanium Car
Here we go again:
- Porsche a builds the car everyone was looking for.
- Porsche says its the most fun car they worked on and they make it sound like everyone who wants one can get one
- Every dealer I talked to pretty much speaks from a previously agreed “script” : “We are getting only 1 car” “We reserve it for our special customers” “We are asking double MSRP”
What a sham. What kind of bull**** is this? Why cant Porsche solve this?
I am going to personally enjoy when car market tanks next time like 2008 and remind the show these guys were putting on last year and a half. Disgusting.
The amount of negative Karma these dealership people are attracting is enormous that I believe it will eventually catch up with them at some point.

I was at the Porsche HQ in Stuttgart last November and brought up your qualms and how can this problem be solved? The answer I received was that it's intentional; supply is deliberately kept at a level to ensure demand and high (retained) value are not decoupled and that's part of the driving force for why Porsche cars are highly sought after by a large number of buyers. So this is the unfortunate reality of the market, Porsche will never produce as many cars as there are buyers regardless of what AP or anyone says because it "devalues" the car and future models in the long-term.

The frustration is real. Which model are you after? GT4 RS?

Patience. Im not so sure that you cant build yourself a better than RS. I understand if you are trying to make money on the RS or want it for prestige or ego reasons (all valid as its part of why I want one too... nobody needs one and there are alternatives). The GT4 and Spyder are great cars and with a few bucks invested into like coilovers, exhaust, wheels, deman 4.5 and a gear switch on the tranny of your choice... you likely have a better car than the RS. Im considering this as well as the RS or Z06 or just wait for the awesomeness that will be an electric sports car. PS. I do not disagree with you that Porsche sucks overall in its approach to sales...

You're well on your way to a whole new car at that point that is not factory built...

I guess I don’t know what the “real world” used to be for Porsche. I placed a deposit for my 981 BS the 1st day that I saw “spy photos.” That was in late 2010, and I got the car in mid-2012 (as I expected). For my Spyder, I again placed an order way before the car existed, and I got one of the first produced. For my now-in-production 992GTS, I placed my deposit nearly 3 years ago, and it’s supposed to arrive in May (again in accordance with my initial expectations). Even with my mundane cars, I typically know what I’m going to buy years before they exist. I’ve never just walked into a dealer and bought a car. Granted, the wait now for nearly every vehicle is probably longer than ever, but it hasn’t negatively impacted me. I guess I’m an oddball, but I’ve always operated this way, and Ive always gotten what I wanted, including my 2022 Husky FE350 that no one else seems to be able to find. The exception is my reserved Ford Bronco, which will probably never arrive…
If you were serious about an RS (or GT3), you should have placed a deposit at least 2 years ago. Actually for a GT3, I’d say at least 3 years. I’m not criticizing you, I just think that’s how it is.
Oh, I also have one of the first deposit for an Emira, but I probably won’t end up buying it…but I’m way up on the list.

Of course. Understood. But honestly Ive had to do so much to the GT4 to make it right already, that 'factory' doesnt really mean that much to me - and shouldnt to anyone who cares about the driving experience. In addition to the obvious sales shuffle that Porsche pulls, the cars that they hype even from the GT side arent really that great once you get in them - they are good, even very good sometimes, but not great. This is how I feel about even the GT4 and likely to feel about any other GT product is that the engineers and the marketing team are at odds and what finally makes it to production from the 'factory' is a shadow of what it could be (with very few exceptions and it might be that the GT4RS is one of them). But in general these cars need help from the get go in my opinion so in for a penny, in for a pound as they say... and I dont mind playing around to make a Porsche my own and arguably better than how it comes from the 'factory'.

A lot of people spouting, "They will build as much as there is demand" couldn't be more wrong.

Everyone who has a good relationship with a good dealer will get a GT4RS at MSRP but it may take a little time. My dealer gave me my Touring allocation on the 3rd round of allocations so I'll patiently wait for my name to be called.

FWIW, however, cars like these do need to be ordered well ahead of time. Once you hear about it, you need to approach a dealer and get on their allocation list. It is true that they will give preference to prior customers.

I know, hard to believe but there are good dealers out there. The key is to have a good relationship with them and wait your turn. The GT4RS is not a 991R or Speedster so if anyone got a GT3/Touring allocation they'll be able to get a GT4RS allocation if they want it but will just take time.

Ideally, they'd build one more than what the demand is, so that everyone has one, no matter how long the production has to be. But it seems like there's always reasons why they don't.
For those that want one, I hope they're able to get it. GT4RS is the car many have been asking for.
