Not to derail the thread, but any thoughts that a shorter final driver + a longer 6th would be a good solution? I think Autoquest Motorsports has that solution.

Yeah, I guess I just needed to hear it from the (Dog’s?) mouth…
You know, back in the old Muscle Car days, you dropped a 4 series carrier in your 12 bolt, along with some 4:11’s and life was good.
Rick’s explanation was just what I needed to hear.
I’m in the camp that the gearing is just not enjoyable for the 45-55 mph roads that I spend 95% of my time on.
That ever so tempting sweet spot in the 3500 RPM range finds me doing 75 before I recognize I’m in that “loose my license” territory.

I was thinking of going this route...however I was informed that the 6th gear replacement was not ideal with new ratio(s), and nor very robust. That's "if" the 6th gear is coming from VW diesel.

Oh boy what a dream car you have got there now. All that performance, sound, top down and improved manual transmission. This is what I would love for a Spyder RS to aim for.

Hey Rick, when did you say you are opening a shop in Europe?

Please share pics / videos when possible!

Back in 2001 Porsche Motorsport offered a shorter R/P for the mighty GT3 R/RS race cars. They came with a disclaimer that they were only good for 15 hours of race use. They certainly did break after that time limit!

Our gearing change is the single best thing you can do to any GT4/Spyder. From a performance and driving experience perspective its the biggest and best bang for the buck outside of the 4.5L.

I have not experienced the clutch issue first hand so not sure what the issue could be. Our lightweight clutch/flywheel package has never experienced that on close to 60 cars now.
Hi Rick,

Do you offer the gear box parts for sale for fitment by others? Potential Australian customer asking…..

Cheers,
Harry.

Rick,

Do you have a run from a stock 718 GT4 on your dyno for a before/after comparison to your 4.5L?

Would the new gears 2-5 you recommend on this thread be the same for stock engine as well as the 4.5L conversion, or would you recommend going with even shorter gears for stock engines?

FWIW Dundon have the same type dyno and they saw as high as 400 on a stock GT4. But a lot depends on the weather and how many pulls you do. To be honest though you could go 20 HP up or down for the baseline and it hardly makes a difference, the power gain is big. As you'd expect from adding half a litre of displacement on top of fitting a free flowing exhaust.

Just an FYI, we have a .75 ratio 6th gear available for install at the time if you wanted lower RPM's on the highway.

Yes, if you feel you have a competent installer we could sell the complete kit.

I'd like to be at that meeting just to tag along haha. My lowly GTS 4.0 won't be getting any surgery, but I'd sure love to see and hear your Spyder, and just to meet up.
