The 718 Spyder RS Discussion Thread

They COULD make the Spyder RS manual transmission, and then use it in the 2024 Cayman GT4 aswell. They did the opposide 2 years ago, the Spyer/GT4 was MT only and then PDK was also avaible. They could also use the new transmission in future vehicles, nobody is 100% sure this is the last ICE mid-engine car. I am dreaming a totally new 7-speed MT with racing-spaced ratios.
Of course it's just a speculation!

![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Are there details on the suspension differences between the 982 GT4 non-RS and RS yet?
I'm specifically wondering whether Porsche has done anything to address/reduce bump steer, but also what suspension pieces are different aside from the obvious changes to spring rates and damper valving.
Thanks!

CONFIRMED WRONG.
HOPEFULLY WRONG.
BROKEN WATCH IS ONLY RIGHT TWICE PER DAY. PROBABLY ALSO WRONG.

I inject some humor into everything yes.
However I must admit this defeat at this point. He/she/it/them gave me great initial info on Spyder RS when I first posted about it, and also follow-ups on content of the car. Somehow today we didn't get the official announcement even if luckily the mule has been spotted so we at least can know it's coming.

Worth separating speculation and dreaming.
Speculation is an honest attempt to get it right.. dreaming is la-la land which is fine, but then it should be cushioned as such.
They aren't making a new manual to fit one ultra limited halo car... when there is no car which will ever follow it which will need an engine or transmission. This is speculation, but also backed up by some info. It's what's happening actually but.. hey, I'm also not inside Porsche.
But If I were dreaming... then id talk ab the 4.2L which is in the works with the pneumatic valvetrain for 10k revs.
See the difference?![thumbsup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigok.gif)

So at this point it appears that it was just you dreaming and speculating with information backed up by the cleaning lady...

Perhaps time to simply wait for the real information to come from Porsche.

A lot of nay-sayers have been proven wrong in this forum. 911R had a 6 speed, which ended up being used in the 991.2 cars. AP had said that it wasn't technically possible to fit the GT3 4.0L into the Cayman chassis, but they did, and no one truthfully saw that coming. While the next generation Cayman/Boxster have been said to be EV only, we have seen plenty of proof that Porsche has changed their minds before, and they could do ICE special editions of the next generation. Especially with all the market pushback on EV's.
When AP designed the 992 GT3 engine, they moved around some of the ancillary parts that allowed the engine to be flipped to fit into the 982 chassis and viola, we now have the GT4 RS with a 992 GT3 engine.

AP didn't lie about this as they can't fit the GT3 engine into the 982 chassis. What needs to be clarified with this statement is that AP was referring to the 991/991.2 GT3 engine fitting into the 982 chassis. I suppose at the time when this was being asked of AP, no one thought to clarify and ask if the the upcoming 992 GT3 engine would be designed any different so that maybe it could fit into the 982 chassis. Low and behold, he was doing that all along.

Until range (relatively easy) and charging (charging networks/speeds won't be easy) are solved, people will continue to cite those as reasons for sticking to burning liquified dinosaurs. That is well documented.
EDIT: to clarify, I would buy an EV if I could get 300 miles of range in 5 minutes of charging, and charging stations were as ubiquitous and reliable as gas stations. I'm not an EV hater, just a realist that reads deeper than headlines.

How does that constitute "ev pushback" in the marketplace? You changed the subject.
Porsche is dumping quite a lot of money into developing charger infrastructure in the EU. They seem to be leaning forward on the EV front aggressively, and I love them for that. (I value human survival over vroom vroom noises; call me crazy).
As EVs gain in numbers, market pressure alone will bring infrastructure. Would this be better done AHEAD of an EV sales boom? Absolutely. But, without getting specifically political, embracing infrastructure changes, especially with respect to renewables-based infrastructure, has been fought tooth and nail. Don't blame the tech for that. You want EV-supporting infrastructure? Vote accordingly. Personally, I think the sheer number of EVs being sold now will draw the money for infrastructure, government-directed or not. (I am trying to figure out who the best investment vehicles are for this, TBH. A LOT of money is about to be spent / made).
Bottom line: I'm not debating your logic wrt the utility of EV currently, in more rural areas especially; plenty of work needs to be done. But based on sales to date, we haven't gotten anywhere close to saturating the market for those willing to buy an EV. I don't see rural Americans being the bread and butter of the Porsche marketplace, anyway.
Required SRS content: Give me manual, or give me death!![rockon](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/rockon.gif)

Yeah, I don't see the pushback either. If anything, the demand is accelerating.
However, I'm not sure EVs are the magic environmental fix many are wanting. It takes a lot of nasty chemicals/metals to make these batts, and electricity has to be made from something/somewhere.
