I just wrap electrical tape around a standard socket and am careful.

Anyone notice that the bolt heads are pretty shallow? It's almost like you don't even need a deep well socket.

My car is in the shop getting the dash replaced. I can't remember...are the lug nuts themselves black (for black wheels)? If so, don't they scuff?

Mine are.

Why are you getting the dash replaced?

Are you going to get some pics of the repair process or do you prefer not to have that image in your head?

Wonder what the old dash would be worth in 25 years, even with the cosmetic flaws. Too bad it's either going back to Germany or getting crushed at the dealer. I used to watch in horror the parts guys at the dealer I worked at in the 80's going medieval with a sledge hammer on dumpsters full of Porsche warranty returns. Seats, gauges, interior trim, wheels, etc.

A 2" square spot on the leather on the front warped and seemed to have pulled away from the backing; was all wrinkly. It wasn't horrible, but it is RIGHT in front where you can see. I expected it to take a year+ to get the part (meaning I get a free year of sun wear and tear on the old dash), but they unexpectedly had a yellow-thread deviated dash available immediately! Go figure. And Porsche wants the old dash back immediately (I assume for root cause analysis).

As for pics mid-surgery...there is a reason I am not a doctor.

Black wheels do have black lugs, then. But they don't seem to scuff too badly? I thought I remembered "padded" / soft insides on some sockets, too, but that would compromise the grip, so maybe not...?

I finally got around to installing this GT4RS shifter. It was a pretty easy install except for trying to get the two side trim pieces off (took a while because I did not want to break them. Two things to watch for: 1) the part with all of the selection buttons goes in before the part with the hazard lights on it. 2) don't forget to plug the wire back into the part with all of the selection switches before you reinstall everything.

Looks good. fyi, there are several videos on YTube that show how to install a shifter, and they show good details on how to R/R the trim.

I watched all of them and they are helpful except they are all about the manual shifter, nothing I could find on PDK. The good news is that once you have the part with the selector buttons out the PDK pops right out, just watch for the connector to the hazard light button, disconnect it before you pull it too far out.

The OEM Porsche lug bolts for the 718 are black regardless of the wheel colour, IIRC that was done to remind the installer that these bolts are to be torqued to 118 ft-lbs. (Silver grey are 96 ft-lbs.)

And yes they scuff/chip and look a little worn after only a few R&R's

How much are they to replace (per wheel)? If I look on Suncoast...is a 19mm Porsche lug a uniform thing across models (for the black ones)?

So silver or platinum wheels also use black lug bolts?

These (from Suncoast) are for wheels with spacers, but the price isn't too bad...for bolts lol

It is a little redundant when your plate is right under the “718 SPYDER” logo.🤪🤪🤪
