The car is expected to arrive mid December. I told the dealer that I am out of town from 18th to the 31st and can take delivery on January 2nd. Dealer is asking me to finish "paper work" when the car "reaches port", I guess he wants to get the money before end of year. Is this normal? I am not comfortable paying before taking delivery, or at least seeing the car.
Any advice? I am thinking that I should just ignore it and repeat my preference for doing "the paper work" when I pick up the car at beginning of January.

If the car is arriving on the dealer lot in mid December I'd guess they'll require you to close even if it's remote. I'm just not sure how much leverage they have to make that happen. I don't think there is a ton of Risk for you closing unseen. Agree that I'd want to see it first as well but I'd not lose a lot of sleep if I couldn't. If it's remote, have them call you on Face Time and inspect anything you want prior to closing. Ask them to pitch in something extra for the inconvenience and extra effort on your part.
I'm also out of town in the same window as you.
No request to "close" on the car for me, nor will do so I until I see it in-person.
On "the list" since Dec 2021...so it's been a 2-year wait.

Never did get an allocation from my dealer in CT but Main Line Porsche in PA was about to receive an unpurchased 2023 CGTS that was close enough so I snatched it up. Can't thank ADMfighter63 enough for hooking me up with Erik who provided an amazing dealer experience. Just got it home from Darien Detail in CT who did the PPF, also highly recommended.

I was upset when I found out I had a manual steering column. The option came back just as my build locked. I’ll live with it. My 1M has a manual column and while I loved the comfort entry on my 981S I don’t think it will diminish the ownership experience.

I did laugh the other day when my friend picked up his $180k 992 and commented to me “I can’t believe I have a manual steering wheel adjustment”
I know that feature went away during the parts shortage and still is not back - very strange.
