They will provide a “cert”, it’s called the factory new car warranty. I don’t mean to sound flippant but do you really want a paper trail to haunt the car forever? An extended warranty, OTOH seems like a very legitimate demand.

Very happy to see this...the more visibility the better - https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...spyder-recall/

No new information in the article but good visibility that can only help our case.

Glad they picked up on this. I had included the links to this thread and the NHTSA filing in the letter I sent C&D last week, so thinking that at least helped prompt some needed attention!

Yes, exactly, here’s the schedule prior to stop sale jail:

Jason Nelson is the one to call at Porsche NA. He called me 2 days ago in response to my recall case I had lodged. I was in a unique situation having paid for my CGTS but not able to take delivery the next day b/c the stop sale came through. I accepted Jason's offer of a new engine & $4K (instead of a loner). My dealer also offered $1K/month until Porsche made me a deal. Combined with the fact that I was allowed to bring my GTS home today while waiting for the engine swap in 2 months, I'd say I am pretty satisfied.

So in addition to the $4K from Porsche NA, your dealer is kicking in another $2K? Did you have to have that conversation with your SA? My SA hasn’t even offered anything other than a basic apology for the inconvenience.

To be clear, I told my dealer I wanted them to pay me $250/wk for the interest I was losing on the money I paid them for my CGTS. They said they would give me $1K total since 4 weeks should be enough time for Porsche to reach out to me, which it was.

I am happy that you will be able to secure the car at your home rather than let it sit on a lot or showroom floor. I am sure even if it should not be driven it will receive better care in your hands while awaiting the transplant. Glad Porsche and your dealer stepped up to the plate. I personally would feel uncomfortable having paid for something and not having it in sight, always wondering what was going on around the car. No disrespect to the dealer but it is not their car any longer.

I’m so glad they included you in the delivered category at least in how they are resolving things for you. What you are getting seems to be the same as the other 20 delivered customers which makes since given you actually owned the car.

The rest of us are still in limbo for a little while longer.

Embarassing report. Don't editors check anything published on-line?
From that I learned that Spyders are coupes now. But more importantly -- it's THE connecting rod which might crack, as if there is only one. Sheesh.
But thank you Jeff for sharing. Just the messenger and all.

I was one of the people who was affected by the 2014 991.1 GT3 engine replacement. We formed a worldwide action group and we spoke to PCNA as one body, and ended up receiving $12,600 compensation for the 2.5 months wait to get the new engine, and later we made further demands and received 10yr, 100K mile warranty on drivetrain and 1 extra year on rest of warranty. It was handled quickly and professionally by Porsche.
I received both my GT4/PDK and Spyder/(Manual) on February 13th, both on the same day. So far I haven’t received any notification that any of my cars are effected. Keeping my fingers crossed but if this changes I will be willing start a similar action group like what we did back in spring of 2014 and look forward to work with PCNA to resolve the issue and speed up resolution. You may want to research the steps we took to resolve the problem. You could google my name “Mark Qandil”, and you should be able to view most of the correspondences, discussions and the media coverage on the topic.

^this.
Favorable outcomes in negotiations don’t just happen. They require effort, coordination, and organization. Dealing with Porsche on an individual basis and expecting Porsche to volunteer favorable resolutions out of the goodness of its heart is bound to produce inferior results. Just IMO, and have no horse in this race.

Personally, I have a hard time getting motivated to participate in a group negotiation when I can still walk away and get my deposit money back if I'm not satisfied with the resolution. I think many (all?) of the GT3 owners already had possession of their cars when the drama unfolded. In that scenario, I would be a lot more motivated.

Sure, if you’re happy with such outcome in which you end up without a car, and if you’re sure you will get your non-refundable deposit back. Negotiations could include improvements for those who refuse the deal and the repaired car, such as a return of deposits and/or immediate allocation for a new order, for example.
