From the recall: Begin : WP0CC2A82MS240598 End : WP0CC2A88MS240671
My Vin: WP0CC2A84MS240554
I interpret that as prior to the range above, thus safe, correct? Thx!

I could be wrong though. My ninth number is 0 so I don’t believe my car is affected by either recall.

I read that as you’re affected. WP0CC2A84 with the 4 being the key number as I see it because the range begins at WP0CC2A82 through WP0CC2A88. The MS I believe is referring to where the car was built so not important and the remaining numbers after MS is the actual serial number.
I could be wrong though. My ninth number is 0 so I don’t believe my car is affected by either recall.

Recall VIN range for the Cayman GTS in the NHSTA documents is:

My VIN: WP0AD2A 88 MS 281533
You can see that my 88 number doesn’t fall within the range above, but my serial number does and my car is being held

The 80 numbers are the internal model number / designations I believe (82 to 88). Check this link, posted earlier, and I broke my VIN down from that, as noted at the bottom of the post.

I can see how people are just looking at the last 6 digits to see if it falls within the VIN ranges to see if their vehicle is affected but as I see it, I go left to right and check each of my VIN digits to see if it matches. If it matches, I move to the next on the right. Mine matched all the way to the 9th digit which was a 0 and so I stopped. Not sure if I'm right or wrong but that's how I viewed it. I guess if I'm wrong and I should just be looking at the last 6 VIN digits, I appear to still be in the clear.

I think the internal model number is the car series (982) and a 3-digit identifier for the specific vehicle model, as seen on the build sheet.
E.g., "982" folllowed by:
160 - Cayman GTS 4.0 (left-hand drive)
260 - Boxster GTS 4.0
510 - Spyder
810 - GT4
I believe the right-hand drive versions use a "1" at the end (e.g. 982161).
Not sure about an abbreviated version, though.
Edit: Just looked at that decoder link. Unless I'm reading it wrong, all of these cars would have "82" in that 8-9 position, no?

Again, why doesn't Porsche just list ALL affected VINs one by one?

Well, this is special. I'd seen some of you posting build status with updated delivery dates, apparently taking into account engine replacements, etc., so I asked my SA for an update this morning. They now show my car leaving Jacksonville port and being in dealer inventory in January, 2030!
I wonder what a 10-year old Cayman GTS with no miles will bring at auction when I finally take possession?
Anyone else seeing the same? I'm assuming a date of 1/4/2030 translates to "no clue".

Agree with what you're saying but I'd like to revisit the highlighted as I believe you're incorrect, with all due respect. I've reviewed the VIN decoder and I believe the 8th digit which is an 8 in your VIN is supposed to be matched with the 12th digit which is a 2. Per the VIN decoder, this decodes to the 982 as shown in the VIN decoder link. It says to use the 8th digit and then it shows 3 dashes and then the 12 digit. In this case, you've matched it with the 8th and 9th digit as that's how I believe you've come up with the 88 and the 9th digit is just a "checksum" digit. Don't know exactly what that means. The decoder doesn't actually have anything listed for 88 using the 8th and 9th digit. Hopefully, this makes sense.

I never thought I’d be looking at my f***ing VIN number in this kind of detail.

From time to time, people here have said Porsche needs to communicate faster and better. Others say, what do you expect. These things take time. Stop whining and wait.
The fact the communication is so bad that people here are trying to decipher VIN numbers to determine whether their car is or is not affected can’t be an argument that the communication is good.
