Update: It has been over 3 years since I first asked about the Spyder and a year-and-a-half since I got it. I drive it all of the time. I've put more miles on it than any of my other Porsches since getting it.

My thoughts:

No issue with power/torque. I have faster cars, but almost never use that potential.

Super fun to drive, but still not as fun as a Miata in the go-cart way of fun. It has nannies, massive grip, and would be too dangerous to push to a limit on the street, whereas a Miata, or even an early 911, can be pushed to the limit continually.

It complements my other cars very well, so is likely to stay for quite a while.

I love my build; it has ridiculous options that I would probably not have picked, but I am glad I got them and the first owner took that hit. It has my #1 color combo for the Spyder, and the aside from the stupid SAT wart, is beautiful.

I hate Cup2 tires for my use case, and will switch to PS4 All Season after this summer. I drive it year-around, and below 40-50 degrees, especially when wet, the tires are a disaster. I see no reason for them unless I was in a climate where it was always warm and dry.

The top is way easier than I expected; the lack of access to trunk in back when the top is up is a hassle that I did not anticipate.

I will chime in if it's ok?

I am closing in on 4 years of Spyder ownership, still there is no open top sports car I would rather have. I spec'd the build so there is nothing I would change; I would check all of the same boxes if I did it all over again!

But a couple of weeks ago I finally got around to doing something I should have done right away, well let's say I started the latest change in October of 2022 when I bought a set of Apex VS-5RS and then a month ago some actual summer tires. (It came with Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2)

So, my Spyder is different now, why(?), because of the summer tires and dialed in alignment, it feels more confident and less demanding at the same time. The Bridgestone RE980AS UHP All Seasons are great for colder and wet weather but lack the control and feedback above 80F and when pushed, the Race/CUP 2's have the immense grip for the track but are not optimal for a lot of street situations including cool wet surfaces whereas the Bridgestone Potenza Sports have taken the Spyder to a different place, the Spyder now feels at home doing everything that I can possibly ask of it on the street without any of the shortcomings of the other tires sets that I have, to be honest I am not sure why I waited so long.

I have fallen in love all over again!
