Update:

After I started this thread, I looked for a Spyder for a while and the high premiums or long waits were just too much, especially since it was not really my ultimate dream car anyway, and I wasn't sure that I'd keep it long-term. I moved on. I bought a 991 Turbo S Exclusive Series and a new Miata to cover the two dimensions I was looking to hit with the Spyder.

After two summers with the Miata, I pulled the trigger on a pre-owned Spyder. The Miata is going away, probably for more $ than I paid for it. I absolutely loved the Miata for what it was. I have driven no car ever that has as high a fun-to-cost ratio. Absolutely the best sports car bargain in my opinion. But I still have a need for speed, and the Miata became sort of a toy for me, like a go-kart. It is also sort of cheap or low quality, not on an absolute basis, but compared with cars like the Turbo S or Spyder. I don't mean to insult the Miata because I do think it is awesome, but it just doesn't warrant a spot in my limited room for cars when it is competing against a Spyder.

The Turbo Ss will stay, but probably be driven less now. After some time driving everything, I might decide to shed further cars, but for now, I'm just looking forward to my first mid-engine car, especially a 4-liter naturally aspirated manual. I'll post pics once it arrives.

Edit: I am really dreading the manual operation of the top. The Miata system is amazing.

Unless you just expect too much torque from the spyder (given you have other cars like a turbo S), I can't see you being anything other than tickled pink when you get it.

I think you are right. Plus, the Miata acclimated me to low torque and power, and I still drive it more than the Turbo S. I have very high hopes for driving fun with this car.

The Spyder does not have low torque, at least not mine.

It's all relative. 553 on the TTS vs 309 on Spyder. But Miata is 151. So I'll be very happy coming out of the Miata into a Spyder for sure.

Of course; however, generally speaking, the Spyder does not have low torque...some have more but many have less - you will love the Spyder.

Congratulations on getting a Spyder you will love it, as for the top, a little finicky but far from something to be dreaded! I am sure that like most of us after awhile you will wonder what all the fuss was about...

Agreed - now that I "have it down", it takes less than a minute, either raising or lowering.

I just watched a YouTube video showing how to do it in less than 30 seconds. Not terrible, but still sucks compared to being able to do it from inside the car while in motion. Worth the trade-off in the end, of course. Oh, the sacrifices we have to make!

The roof really only goes up when I put it in the garage for a long period of time, usually. Otherwise, it just stays down. Rainy season may change that answer.

As easy as it is to put up or down, I'd love to be able to remove it entirely and hang it on the garage wall since I virtually never drive it with the top up.

I feel that the best place to store the top when it is down is safely stowed under the clamshell, no chance of damage and getting dirty and no chance of damage to the car removing or reinstalling it.
