I just stopped by my dealer and found out some interesting info. They said that them and Porsche both know about it, but they've had the oil on backorder for three months now. I then of course asked about current oil changes for customer cars and was told they have no choice but to do them with the old A40 spec. They are documenting everything for CYA purposes and the potential issues down the road.

if Mobil1 c40 isn’t available they should actively be exploring alternative c40 sources instead of putting Mobil1 a40 in. Alleviates the mixing concern. I expect better. Their response may hold some weight for warranty work but what about long term impacts of this ho-hum approach?

I hear yah and don't know the answer to these questions. Just passing along what I found out so people can make an informed decision.

fully agree, sorry I wasn’t shooting the messenger, just expressing disappointment in the approach that we’re being faced with

I just did a Google search for "Liqui Moly Top Tec 4110" and found that FCP Euro sells it for $34.99/jug, free shipping with two ordered.

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/5w4...xoCM0EQAvD_BwE

So $70 for 10 liters which is enough for an oil change with enough to spare for top-up. Not Mobil 1 but not $20+/liter either. And it meets all the specs.

I just now checked Summit racing's site and they have Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP oil for $12/ quart. It claims to be formulated for gas particulate filters, and is dexos 2 rated. No idea if it is C40 approved, couldn't tell from the description.

I'm guessing it is A40 as that is the same description of the oil I have. Ask them if it says X3 on it or if shows that in the pic.

Edit: Just looked at their page and I'm 99.99% sure it is the A40 spec.

That’s the new oil for Vettes 2019 and up.

Similar issue when GM changed formulation; dealers were clueless and stock was lacking. Don’t believe it is C40 certified. Dexos is GMs cert.

Tough when all of the information is not provided, we can't even be sure that included pictures are correct, but if they are then the UPC indicates it is NOT the X3 version, and the back label does not show C40 either...

I just picked up my Spyder from its 10,000 mile / 6 month servicing. The dealer used Mobil 1 A40 for the oil change. I'm still waiting for them to tell me why they didn't use C40, and what should be done about it.

Wow, that is not good, probably not the end of the world but still astounding when the C40 spec oil is available in their parts system and indeed online as well! Especially considering that C40 oil has been out for a couple of years now...

Just Googling around, found this on Amazon:

You can see the little "ACEA C3" on the lower right of the jug. Don't get excited, this is Amazon.uk.

This is what I'm going to be using...
5W-40, C40

DIY project with my son planned for the XMAS break (there's %$#@ nothing else to do up here, everything is closed...)

Is there a tread with pics for oil change somewhere?
Otherwise, I may take pics I do one myself for the benefit of others

There are lots of YouTube videos of oil change, probably none of the new 4.0 718's but most things are similar. Oil plug is plastic and removes with a screwdriver. You're supposed to replace it but I've read where some reuse it with no problem. There are apparently some under body panels to remove to access it, but I've been doing that on my Cayenne for years.
