SPASM and probably LWBS for 95% back-roads fun drives. My concern is that the Spyder/GT4 are already too compliant, judging from some of the comments.
i picked the gt4 and after a couple days can understand why someone would want the GTS instead. It’s a lot friendlier for daily driving due to clearance. The front lip of the gt4 is a high maintenance relationship, and it’s going to scrape.

the gt4 suspension is borrowed from the gt3. It’s sublime. I don’t know why anyone would say it’s too compliant unless they wanted a dedicated track car. But also, the gt4 suspension is fully adjustable like the gt3. So .. maybe they’re just doing it wrong ?

If money were no object, why wouldn’t you choose the Spyder for that ? It also has the gt3 front suspension, so it’s a big step up from the Boxster.
but there’s nothing wrong with the gts for road carving. it’ll require a little more of the driver to go as fast which ... is not a bad thing at all.

Money is no object as the msrp of the builds end up pretty much the same. The only reason I’m looking at the gts is the power top. Looks, gt3 suspension, and expected value retention would be the counter-reasons favoring the Spyder. It’s such a toss up that I end up favoring one over the other each alternating month. Here I am building Spyders in the configurator again for the last few days. Too much time left until next Spring, lol...

Btw, for everyone getting a GTS out of height/clearance concerns: the gt4/Spyder (coilover) suspension is height adjustable. Personally, if I was getting a coupe, I would see no reason to pick a GTS over the GT4.

If you are wanting the higher setup for a more compliant ride then why not save the $'s and get a 718S instead? Its going to be 90% of what the GTS is just as the GTS is 90% of what the Spyder/GT4 is.

Its all a matter of preference at the end of the day. One of the reasons why I'm ordering a GTS is because I'm building it to my spec, not having to compromise by buying a used one that is close but doesnt have all the bits I wanted. Its the Goldilocks moment. This will be my 5th Porsche and very likely the only 1 I will buy new. I'm sure I'm not alone in that statement!

Comfort would be the reason. The GT4 is going to be firmer than even the SPASM GTS. I had a SPASM C2S and it was much softer than this GT4. The GTS is going to be a more livable daily driver than the Spyder or GT4, while still performing really good.

There’s a huge difference between a 4.0L NA flat six and a 2.5T flat four. A GTS maybe 90% of a GT4, but an S is only 66.7% of a GTS to me. A fraction of the sound, and a fraction of the throttle response.

If someone wants a softer cruiser for steep underground car parks and driveways, winter snow, and light off roading, they can get it with the factory lift kit. More power to them.

To each his/her own. For me, the reasons to pick a GTS over a GT4 include:
  1. A wider selection of exterior colours
  2. A wider selection of wheels and wheel colours
  3. More interior options, including the ability to avoid Race-Tex/alcantara/ultrasuede altogether
  4. No rear wing
  5. Additional steering wheel options, including multi-function
  6. Two zone climate, seat heating and carplay included
  7. Smaller brakes (more wheel choices, including my existing 18" winter wheels)
  8. Narrower, less expensive tires
  9. About $20 grand

I agree. I forgot that the price diff between cayman gts and gt4 is MUCH bigger than then the price diff between boxster gts and the Spyder. In GT space, the the coupe (GT4) costs more than its roadster equivalent (Spyder). In GTS space, the coupe (Cayman) costs LESS than the roadster (Boxster). For 718 4.0 coupes (and for 718 4.0 overall) the cayman gts is the bargain. For roadsters, the gts is overpriced relative to the similarly priced Spyder which ends up being the bargain. I have no idea what Porsche’s logic was with these prices. They make no sense.

$14k difference between my GT4 and a similarly equipped GTS. IIRC, it was about $10k difference in Spyder form.

I have a Cayman GTS 4.0 on order with PASM. I currently own a GT3 Touring, and I need to use the FAL every time I leave my neighborhood due to dips in the road for drainage. I previously owned a 981 Cayman S with the sport suspension, and I had to slow to less than a walking pace to go through those dips. This got old very quickly! The GTS and the GT4/Spyder are not available with FAL, so for me, I am looking for as much ground clearance as possible. In addition, I believe that the PASM will provide more ride comfort and better tire contact on rough roads, as will as reducing the chance of tire and wheel damage. My GT3 doesn't respond well to our terrible roads in Sonoma, and I believe that the softer (and higher) of the 2 choices on the Cayman will be better for everyday use, and still provide great handling. While I haven't driven either variant, I have seen a few videos that mention that the PASM doesn't give up too much to the sport PASM, even on the track.

I hope this helps with your decision.

The gts/spyder diff shrinks to almost $5k for me -- for similar builds, or at least for builds that look equally valuable to me.

Same with me on the Spyder vs GTS...the Spyder I would build is only about $4k more than my GTS. And I agree with the previous reasons as to the GTS over the Spyder. For me like others it comes down to options and power top, especially since it will be my daily.

I am starting to rethink the 20mm SPASM vs 10mm PASM. My current order (not locked) is 20mm. My reasoning on 20mm is that I have a feeling I won't really notice a difference between the two so I might as well go 20mm...but I could apply that same logic to going 10mm.

Don't forget that there's an aftermarket FAL available: https://designsbyjacob.com/products/...-axle-lift-kit

thank you for mentioning the aftermarket FAL option. This certainly could make ownership of a GT more palatable. However, since the GTS has the -10 mm option, I should point out that the front axle lift does not solve every problem. in my GT three with FAL I have no problems with driveways, dips etc., but it is no help when you’re coming around a corner at 60 miles an hour and see a bunch of 4 inch rocks in the middle of the road. this is exactly what happened to me in my 981 Cayman S, and the end result was two new tires .
