No.
I can't see how a shift **** would cause a gear grind either...

I think there is a user component to it, that’s why I asked.

Interestingly, mine has stopped grinding now. I haven't had this happen in ~2500 KM. Still worth doing a gearbox flush though just to clean out the shavings.

It shouldn't. These cars use a shifter cable linkage setup, not a lever and selector rod setup. The weight of a shift **** isn't being transmitted to the internals of the gearbox.

As said before, I have been told by expert techs that it is syncros bedding-in. Typically happens in new'ish cars or those that aren't driven hard enough. Remedy is high RPM fast shifts between 1-2.

I don’t really agree, but I’ve made my arguments 2x in the thread already LOL.

Yup, me too. I can say this without a doubt, that in my case, it's not driver error. It wasn't me causing the grind, and it's not me preventing it. The grind just went away at just over 700 miles.

I hear ya
And none of us have ridden with each other... so its a logical comment... you don't know how in driving or shifting... I get it.

I can say this... 30 years of MT experience. I've never owned an automatic... and I've not had this issue before... lots of older cars without synchro etc. Lots of brands. Short shift kits and weighted shift **** upgrades... you name it. Never wore a clutch out.

Is my driving getting sloppy in old age? Perhaps! Hahaha probably not though.

I will say I only notice it in leisurely city driving. When driving spirited in the country I don't notice it. And I've only just recently started driving the car a bit around the city... which I don't feel is fair to the car. It likes to stretch its legs.

I had a good spirited run in the Spyder today.
I could not reproduce the 1=>2 shift grind.
The car likes to be driven this way.

I've got a 2020 Spyder that I've had since the summer of 2020, currently at about 12,000 miles. This 1 2 shift "Grind" or "Scrapping Noise" (I'll call it an Event) has happened a couple of dozen times over the last few years, never really something I could re-produce at will but something I learned to live with by not accelerating hard from 1st and to make a point of doing a slow 1 - 2 shift.....mostly that worked but every so often the "Event" would pop up and any passenger I had with me at the time would say "What the heck was that? First time driving a manual is it?".
This year, after my first drive of the season, it happened again and I'd finally had enough
So prior to my most recent 4 year service I sent my dealer the attached service bulletin and said "Add that weight during my next visit". They ordered the parts (that I had to pay for because Porsche doesn't agree that this horrible noise is a "fault") and installed (also my at my cost) them when they were doing my yearly service.
So far....the 1 2 "Event" hasn't repeated and the sporty shifts that the bulletin says might be impacted by the add of this weight, feel the same to me
If you, like me, suffered through this and have/are waited/waiting for it to go away and hasn't, maybe this fix is worth a try because for me, its so far so good.

What's crazy about all this, is that some Cayman 4.0's were doing it. And as I recall, Porsche's "fix" was to make the GT cars feel like non-GT cars with this fix. So go figure.
