SOUL | 718 GT4/Spyder Exhaust Development
#1456
Hey guys, I understand your feelings on this but I do feel obligated to chime in on behalf of SOUL and myself having worked with Terry and many others in regards to this particular modification. Over the past few years we have on numerous occasions received feedback from customers installing these sound symposer deletes that is positive. Even after driving their cars in all manner of modes, with PSE on and PSE off, they have found benefits to doing this. Yet I know this makes no sense to you and others as the sound symposer can be deactivated just as well as it can be activated. However, just on 10/27 I received a message back from a customer of ours overseas and I quote "Just installed your plugs, 10/10 this should be a must for whoever mods any part of the exhaust!". Do I expect everyone to have that feedback? For sure not, it's far to subjective and I have indeed had others say it didn't make much difference to them. I also know fellows running straight pipes on Boxster/Caymans that say it has no drone, and those who say it makes their head explode haha. But, based off feedback that this sound symposer delete has worked for people we will continue to offer the product to those asking how they can further reduce drone and cabin presence in the car, we'd be remiss if we didn't have the conversation with realistic expectations that it May reduce the drone in cabin depending on the driver and the particular setup they are running, regardless of whether or not it is activated. Weird? Yes, but weirder things have happened and people still don't like the darn thing tubing sound into the interior of the car. I hope this may somewhat ease your reactions to people pursuing this mod, as I can assure you every person I chat with about this does have realistic expectations that it may (or may not) net a reduction on drone based on their specific tolerances, exhaust setup, and various feedback we've received from our customers over the last several years. This also stretches out past the 718 4.0L platform, as deleting the sound symposer is also a common mod on the 991.1 and 991.2 Carrera platform. I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend, and Uncledude it was great catching up with you Friday!

John Gaydos

Thank you John
Absolutely, user satisfaction varies. However, the point was not whether one would like or dislike the Sound Symposer delete
The point was there is no reason for the Sound Symposer delete if you have no occasion to ever activate Sound Symposer (PSE) to begin with
If a driver wants it quiet with native valve control, why would he ever activate PSE?
If a driver wants it loud and holds valves open with VC, again, no reason to activate PSE.

I will only speak for myself as I have been around the Performance car thing since the mid 60's.
I totally realize that all of us do what we think best regardless if even a Super-Close buddy disagrees with what we decide on.
Thanks again for your time the other day and (Useful-Advice) on what I should consider doing.
Seems your reading comments on this Thread frequently.
You did receive my Text-Message and Lengthy E-Mail, right buddy.

Do we really need to know about Fedex?! And we really do not need to know appointment details, either. Could have just said you are expecting your exhaust and you have an installation appointment. That is why people give up reading threads when looking for information since many of them contain a lot of non-pertinent info.

@Soul Performance Any appetite to add resonators to the OPF delete pipes section of the Resonated Race Exhaust? I feel like this would be a great option for those that don't care for the valves but want a slightly less droning Race set up.

The presence of the OEM rear box represents an exception, as it seems to be able to handle just about anything your throw at it upstream in terms of scavenging drone
The question is, can you enjoy the OEM rear box tone? I crossed the drone line pairing my Dundon headers/OAPs with the Race Pipe . . . I am now willing to accept the OEM rear box tone in exchange for all the Dundon components have to offer.
The gentleman who just bought my Race Pipe is about to test the waters himself. He has OEM headers with Flat6 OAPs. . . I am very curious to hear where his setup falls on the decibel-to-drone spectrum?

Well said @Avera . . . OEM muffler can mute a lot of drones but it sounds like a boat engine...boring and has no characteristic at all in the entire RPM range.
Of course, I am saying this with COMPLETE BIAS, but I had the loudest and best sounding GT4 east of the Milky Way . . . and the worst drone in the Milky Way.
I had to make a compromise and OEM tone is it . . . now I think the OEM rear box sound just fine
