Big Genitalia’d the thing when I was bored one day before moving to the the Dundon Header/OAP setup, then a custom non-valved JCR setup with 4 silencers as well as Soul’s race setup. My current setup consists of Soul Catted Headers and OAP with oem rear section. It gives me the performance gain I originally set out for without ANY drone.

However, I’m itching to add Soul’s valved rear section to improve the tone of the exhaust. Secondarily, I’d like to open up the bottle neck that is the outlet to the OEM exhaust tips, either by pursuing John to build me one without that neck down, or having my fabricators build me something here in MN.

Am I going to regret it? Should I just leave good enough alone?
I have the Soul Street Headers, which have the hi-flow cats, along with their Resonated Race Exhaust and I love it - this was after trying different combos as well. But there is drone in the 2500-3k rpm range so you need to drive around it so to say, but I am ok with it since overall it is what I am after.

I believe the discussion on the other exhaust thread should come over here if it were to continue. Maybe a Version 2 of the backbox could just dump the secondary exhaust into the primary before its x-pipe. It worked for Kline. It can work for others. It could easily be prototyped. You need to have those extra pipes in the system to cancel out the unwanted frequencies that these cars make in their exhausts.

I can tell you from experience that even a well resonated OAP going into a large fully muffled x-pipe muffler will still have some drone. It will sound utterly amazing from 4-8k rpms, but even a properly muffled single pathway does not get rid of all of the resonating drone.

The blue flow path is what works so well to kill the drown, and it is even still there when the valves are open and the majority of the air is following on the red pathway.

Maybe something like this could help to further reduce the drone at the lower rpms. Not sure if John has tried this.

I hope Soul is working on a new V2 that addresses the drone issue; otherwise, I am not sure anyone would be keen buying the current version after reading the brutally honest feedback on the other thread

None of that feedback is new, the people I know have all given that information back to Soul including myself. I also hope they come out with a new version, the price is a bit of an issue now IMO.

I have Kline with valves always open (red path) and there is no drone at low rpms, yes more deep sound between 2200/2800 rpm with the roof open (Spyder) but still pleasant and with a nice sound quality, so I don't know if it will be the fix for the system. I had Soul before, only the valved rear muffler with valves always open and it sounds really nice, less boomy noise than the stock muffler at this rpm range; the problem is when you add OAPs, boomy noise and quality sound changes in a bad way.

The Soul rear section and stock OAP’s, with the valves locked open, is pretty good all around. That was my findings as well, opening the valves full time eliminated most of the resonance in the drone zone (Cayman GTS).

Took delivery of my 718 4.0 GTS about 6 weeks ago, and on Fri I added on the Valved Exhaust - so far SOOO GOOOD!! Know there is a method A and B as far as the valves go so once I go back over to the shop to snag the stock exhaust, I'll dive more in depth w them on this as when I picked it up I had to leave right away.
Sounds so nice, love it so far - Cheers John and everyone over at SOUL!

I’m looking for some input and/or advice. I’ve gone back through a part of the thread, admittedly not the whole thing, without finding what I’m looking for. I recently acquired a 2020 GT4 with Soul race headers, oap and resonated Soul race x pipe exhaust. It’s a bit loud for my taste and I’d like to tame it down. I’m planning to put stock headers back on and see how it is with oap and resonated race x pipe. Has anyone had this combo? My guess is that the factory cats should quiet it down.

Yes, that should do the trick for you so I agree - swap the headers first and see how you like it. I went with their Street Headers, which have high-flow cats and some say that is still too loud (but I like it).

I started with race exhaust and OAP. Headers its 2x plus the crackle.it’ll probably be all good without headers unless the drone is still bad.

that is the cheaper option. Other is valved exhaust and keep headers for performance. Valved exhaust may eliminate drone

Just another reason I prefer my manual since I can "shift-away" any drone if it gets bothersome.

PDK you just shift it away too? Unsure why manual makes a difference

I guess you are right...I have always had manuals and just assumed most people who got the PDK preferred to let the car shift.
